Anyone own an Intrak\Intrac AK?

They are considered quite a prize. They were imported before the SAR line came along.

They have upturned charging handles and are considered good candidates for an AIMS-74 makeover.

If you want a shooter dunno that that'd be the one to get.

The ability to mount optics is nice, but so is a threaded barrel and a removable muzzle device, two things that the Intrac lacks.

Arsenal SLR-105s, 105Rs and 105 A1Rs are probably the nicest 5.45x39 options, with Vector coming in a close third, unless you really want to drop some coin on a Krebs -- I think they have a 5.45 option? Anyway, the only rub there is that an Arsenal is going to be almost twice where that auction is presently.

Wasn't Intrac just an importer?
My AK is marked:

INTRAC ARMS, KNOXVILLE TN
RATMIL, MADE IN ROMANIA

It's a WUM 1 that I picked up from J&G Sales around 1997-98. I've since converted it to a pistol grip configuration with the requisite US mad parts.

Removing a welded on muzzle device is a major pain in the ass unless you don't care about the crown on the barrel.

That really depends.

The nut that was welded onto my muzzle just had one tiny tack weld attaching it to the front sight post. It took me about five minutes with a file or hacksaw blade (can't remember which now) to remove the weld without buggering up anything else.

I've got an Intrac Mk. II in 5.45 that I had converted to an AK-74 clone. Originally it came with the "Draganov" style stock. It seems someone converted the one on auction this way as well. It also came with a scope mount on the side so I put a Kobra red dot on it. Shoots great!

Actually that is true, if they just did a quick spot weld, it might be quite easy. My RPK is done up that way while my bulgarian was more of a pain in the ass.
