Anyone tried this safe?

$75 is a bit steep for a standard keypad 'safe'. They're all about the same within that price range. I paid $55 for mine, works well enough to keep curious people out.

One thing though, anyone can come in when you're not home and simply walk out with it. Bolt it down to something, like a wall. Use really long lag bolts.

I actually have that exact same cabinet. I wouldn't classify it as a safe though, but it will keep out kids, and it can be mounted in a shelf or small space.

It works well for the purpose I use it for, but if a robber wanted to get into it, it would take probably 30 seconds to break into.

I cant remember how much I paid for it either, but I dont think that much

*shrug*

I've had TWO of those fail and refuse to open (not battery related, they wouldn't open with the key, either). Had to cut them open.

There must be a local store that sells used store fixtures. I found my second safe at a place like that here in Minneapolis. Made the deal. They had their locksmith set the combo to what I wanted, and now it hides. These are very heavy and it would take a determined perp to get into it or get it out of the house. The long gun safe is not that fancy, but is firmly attached to the wall, and is behind a locked door.

Craig's List also has a rotating variety of safes. For a reasonable charge you can get them comboed all the same.

Cannon makes a decent pistol safe that uses a Simplex type push-button lock. The door lid has a gas piston to hold it open also. They usually sell for around $169. It is heaver than many other pistol safes, has foam padding inside and is pre-drilled for mounting.
If you can find one on the used market, the best pistol safe I have seen is one of the models made by R&D Enterprises. They are no longer around (I think), but featured either Simplex locks or Medeco key locks. Very heavy, very sturdy, worth the price.

5yrs now -

...

Bought the exact safe 5yrs ago, mounted it up in a corner of a cabinet where it is bolted to stud and there's no leverage points, it fits in there tight..

Note: mine was a bit bigger 12"high/11"Depth/15"wide .. and was around 98 dollars fyi

Started off with 1 handgun, 2 mags and it now holds 6 handguns, 14 mags with room for 2 more handguns (nicely stacked like pyramids) with mags on entire lower left side and both sides on the upper shelf plus some key documents/titles, papers, in a folder that the guns on the bottom sit on top of, and in the back, standing up, our passports and my Dads WWII AAC/USAF wings and Captains bars and some other small important items in a tiny leather box front right top shelf..

For the price and the room to grow, which has surprised me, greatly, once you find "the placement and stacking order. I also use inexpensive Uncle Mike IWB Neoprene holster for each gun to prevent any scratching.

Got to say, never a problem, opening and closing it all these years via Battery digital combo and have only had to replace the battery's once, about a year ago. Noting that it gives you plenty of "notice" via the red light in the center will come-on each time you open it telling you time to replace the battery's - sooner than later.

Very satisfied, considering it can hold 8 handguns and I could probably get another 4 mags in there if needed.

But I'm asking Santa for a bigger safe, this Christmas, as it's getting time, considering the 3 rifles I have as well.

But this same safe you're looking at has worked fine for me all these years with many openings and closings - never, once, any problems.

@ Lonestar: Have always wondered, what do you do about the battery? It must sit forever and could die. Does it beep like a smoke detector when running flat?

Only designed for one handgun your HD gun, but it is very simple, reliable, and pretty secure. It is heavier gauge steel than most (3/16"). It won't me the most economical, but it is a very good value when you consider all the benefits it offers.

No, that would eat up fading energy.. lol, and tell ears "here I am".. no, no sounds

They all have 3 lights, red being the center light. The red light only comes on when you open the safe IF the battery's are getting low and it is a timely warning as it just dawned on me when I kept seeing it and thought "don't remember that being on when I open it" and at the same moment of that thought, it failed to open, so I got out the owner's manual and looked it up.

With that knowledge, now, in mind, I gave it another try and it opened and I replaced the battery's..

They really last a long time with many many openings and closing's over the years it took to get to that point.

My best guess is that I went thru more than 20 openings with the red light coming on.. Ample warning once understood

Never have used the hidden key.. yet, and still on second set of battery's (4) and I go in and out of that little safe.. A LOT
