I have a Bush Master A3 and just bought a new A2 reciever to dedicate to NRA highpower. Honestly, I like my A3 carry handle set up so I was thinking, does anyone use an A3 with a carry handle in NRA highpower? I see that RRA has a NM set up like this but does anyone use it seriously in competition?

I just like the fact that I can just mount my scope on it at will and it can be use in other fun competitions like "any gun any scope" events.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I will probably go the detatchable carry handle route on my "budget match" build. It might cost a little more than the fixed handle upper. The RRA NM handle is supposed to have enough elevation to make 600yds.

I have heard that the AMU uses detatchable carry handles. Partly because they invest a lot into the sights being worked over. WOA makes a detachable handle with pinned sights I believe.

One HM/DR/P100 in my area plans on going to it also. His idea is he can scope it for load development.

There is a thread here in the competition forum.

Have you shot much HP or are you new to the game?

I've been using my flattop/carry handle rig for about 2 years and my range is at 300 yards. For slow fire we used a 600 yard reduced to 300. I practice shoot more than I actually compete. I'm pretty sure my carry handle sights are good to 600 yards if I zero them at the bottom. I don't know when I'll get the chance to actually shoot at 600 yards.

How many minutes elevation is it from 300 to 600 yards? I also forgot to get the F marked front Sight Base so I might need to return it and get the correct one.

The AR was a RRA NM loaner. It was zeroed at 200yd. With Black Hills Seconds 75gr Match HP 300yd was +3 moa then 600yd was +11.5 moa or 200yd zero + 14.5 moa. I wrote it on the ammo box so I would not forget. Good thing as now I would not be able to remember. Finding the ammo box stretched my recall.

Shooting at 600 was a pleasure. It didn't seem too bad. The reduced targets seem to be more of a challenge. I have not shot a lot of matches or even practiced a lot so my perception might be off a bit due to my constantly changing take on the task at hand.

I am actually trying to figure out if I am better off building my match AR, buying new or buying used. I am leaning toward building my own . Used is 2nd option and new is 3rd.

At least DIY I can pick up deals on some used items.
