Just attended an Appleseed Shoot, put on by the Revolutionary War Veterans' Ass'n, and Fred'sM14Stocks.com.

It Was A Blast. (Pun intended.) Have never shot so much in one weekend in my life. There was ample safety and supervision on the line, and training in both shooting and history. America was once "a nation of riflemen," and this Appleseed effort is an attempt to make that so once more.

The big thing to do was to qualify as a Rifleman via the AQT, the Army Qualification Test, with targets reduced in size so that the whole thing can be shot @ 25yd. (Think that's necessarily easy?? some of those targets are the size--literally--of postage stamps.)

I'm a pretty fair shot myself, but I benefitted from the instruction, as well as the intense practice.

So for $45 I had 2 heavy-duty range days, lots and lots of shooting, all the instruction I could use, got qualified as a Rifleman, re-learned some history that I'd forgotten since high school, enjoyed helping other shooters on the line, enjoyed talking with other riflemen, and learned things about rifles other than my own collection.

Weekend very well spent. More info available at: www.rwva.org or www.fredsm14stocks.com

Nothing like spending two days on the range having fun and learning something to boot:D

We are trying to organize one here in the Southwest for late 06 early 07 anyone interested?

Yep, Appleseed shoots are great. I really enjoyed being around like-minded people. I'm going to attend the week-long rifleman boot camp at Freds home range. Free camping all week, modern range with pop-up targets way out, and lots of shooting. Doesn't get much better than that.
