I picked up this piece today, it has 80% of original blue remaining, pristine barrel, working decocker (does not ignite primers unlike some other P38 I have seen). Original Grip, good German military markings with waffeneagle and waffenamt 359 stamp. Excellent surface, no pittings or blood pitts. I was really excited initially.

But then I checked the serial number: it was mismatched. Upper receiver and barrel are the same serial number 203Xd, and the lower receiver is 853xe, and there is "AC 43" stamped on the slide, and waffenamt 359 is also stamped on the lower receiver.

My question is:

1. What is the estimate of this mismatched piece? Very approximate number.

2. Does WWII German armory routinely mix and match their service pistols and reissue them?

Inputs are appreciated.

Dunno, but I've got a matching AC41 in excellent condition and was given an approximate value of about $400-$500 a couple of years ago. YMMV, disclaimers, etc.
