I'm looking to buy or build an ar10 type rifle in 308 for hunting.

Im new to the ar world so I need some help. I want the rifle to be under 8lbs when done with no scope, and still shoot 1 moa or better. I don't want to spend more than $2k, but $2500 is the absolute max. I will shoot any where from 10-500 yards with most being under 300. I may be forgetting something or maybe this isn't really possible, I don't know. The lighter, and more accurate the better, but accuracy tops weight. Thanks in advance for any help.

I change it to 8 lbs because I figure it's a little more realistic.

The diamondback is listed at 8.73 lbs so thats a no go. And aero precision doesn't make a complete rifle, and their uppers don't interest me with their specs.

Best to buy a complete Armalite (AR-10 is the registered name of Armalite), or a DPMS style rifle (like the Aero M-5) one that meets your specifications, they are NOT interchangeable between the two as to parts or even magazines. Referring to a 308 AR as an AR-10 can cause all manner of problems when buying pieces and parts. There is a real difference and you need to know what you have.

#Diamondback offers a 16” light weight barrel, the ad is for an 18” mid weight. You might call and ask.

A Smith and Wesson AR10 with lightweight barrel can be had from their performance center for $1500 and they have a reputation for being accurate and working as shipped. I doubt it is under 7 pounds tho. To get an AR10 down below 7 pounds be prepared to throw alot of $ for a reliable and accurate one.

Here is a good deal on a standard light one, add trigger and good optic up grades and be at $2K

I would search for a DPMS G2 Hunter. I have one as my main deer rig, excellent weapon for a lightweight ar-10. They are out of production, but have the edge for handiness in my opinion. I am up to around 10 deer with this setup.
