I need an AR-15 case for my new gun. I want a really durable hardcore case. I went all out on this gun and i want to go all out on the case.

Anyone have any experience with this case and how many magazines will it hold????

get a hardigg storm case

for a while, they were quite a bit better than the pelican cases, but last year or so, pelican seems to have caught up and they're comparable again, as far as i can tell.

A really great gun case is made by Galati Intl. I have one for my Sig 556. The case is very heavy duty and they make them in different sizes. I have a 34 or 35 inch for my sig. It will fit any optics I put on as well. It has 4 pockets for 30 round mags as well.

Get the Harddigg Storm, preferably the 3300, thats the longest + made for 2 rifles (hunting rifles). I have one for my AR, at first it may seem like too large of a case for just an AR, but as we all know AR's tend to sprout little offspring accessories and attachments, so you might as well get the space to expand. Mine holds my AR 20" HBAR with a large 50mm scope, 4 - 20 rnd mags, 4 30 rnd PMags, Paddle holster, Bipod, full size cleaning kit, XD9 w/ 4 mags, and KBar, and STILL room to spare. I will be adding a 16" upper in there to round out the kit cuz there is that much room as long as you plan ahead and utilize the space well.

There is no question that if you want to go all out on a case go for the Storm. Storm cases are usually slightly cheaper than Pelican's, although Pelican recently bought out storm so who knows now.

Though almost the same size and same features, Storm 3300 wins out on the Pelican 1750. Storm has 2 extra latches on each side, Pelican doesn't. Storm is also waterproof, meaning it can be submerged, while Pelican is water resistant, does really well in wet weather but cannot be submerged. During Katrina there was actually a police unit whose gear was in a Storm submerged in their cruiser in salt water for 2 weeks and was bone dry when they retrieved it. Both cases you can take on a plane because of the padlock holes.

The Storm comes with 4 layers of dense foam and if you cut it correctly, you have a fitted, superbly protected, waterproof, shockproof, rust proof (as long as the seal stay tight and maybe add some silica) case that you can toss in your truck or take on a plane.

This guy is probably the best and his was a do at home, "mfingar" on AR15.com, it's how I learned how to do mine, Planning and patience is key.

TexasRifleman - I ordered my Storm from Botach Tactical in 07, for $189 with $8 ship, took em 3 weeks but i got it, checked their site again and the same case is up to $300!

For a sure fire safe buy try Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Hardigg-Indus...TAQQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1250068441&sr=8-1

Haven't used these guys but I have heard some good things about them, fast ship, low low prices http://www.cases4less.com/detail_storm_3300.html

Haven't tried with these guys but decent price.

No personal experience, but some people have had good experience with opticplanet
http://www.opticsplanet.net/storm-case-with-custom-foam-3300.html

I wouldn't pay more than $230 for a Storm 3300, or a 3220(it's a little shorter but much deeper almost 9" if you are paranoid about padding your rifle or maybe throw a spotter in there?) If you get an empty on, you can order 4 piece foam replacement from Adorama for $54? I think. Price compared to a similiar size Pelican, maybe $20 more give or take.

Well, when I bought my new AR-15 I started looking for the same type of case that you mentioned at the beginning of this thread (hardcore, all-out case). Naturally, that led me towards hard cases. But, I move my rifle around on a daily basis (house to personal car, personal car to patrol car, patrol car to personal car, personal car to house), along with a lot of other gear.

I ultimately bought a 5.11 nylon gun case, and I'm very happy with that purchase. It has protected the gun very well, and the weapon has not been damaged after quite some time of traveling in the trunk of a patrol car (trust me, this says a lot!).

Obviously the case I chose isn't going to work for airline travel, but it takes a beating well, and is easier to pack and lighter than a hard case. It may not be what you are looking for, but I'd encourage you to take a look at it if you can get by without a hard case!

Pelican

My Crazy Horse MK14 SEI Mod 0 fits in the 1700 that is made for the M4.

Depends what you use them for, or whether or not you have a expensive optic you don't want banged around. If you travel with your firearm, how is a soft case any good. What if you have a large scoped rifle you take hunting and can only fit it in the bed of your truck?

Soft cases are great if you use it like coloradokevin does, day in and day out from place to place. I'm pretty sure most would spend the extra 20 secs to unlatch a hard case than a zippered softcase if they were moving their $1500 rifle with a $800 scope. The peace of mind of not having to worry about damaging thier investment is worth it. Now if it was a bang & clang, AR, AK or a decent hunting rifle that you don't mind tossing around, a soft case is great. To each his own.

how so, jerk?

Well, I can't answer directly for jerk, but I imagine that he is probably getting at the same point that I was:

1) Hard cases are usually larger
2) Hard cases are usually heavier
3) Hard cases are usually harder to pack in a vehicle, etc.

I have no issues with someone wanting to own a hard case, and I have a few around here myself. However, the Pelican case I have at home is a pain to fit in the trunk of my patrol car, and weighs a heck of a lot more than my soft case (you notice the weight if you carry the thing around for a while). So, I would encourage the OP to at least look at a quality soft case, assuming one would work for his intended purposes.

Both soft and hard cases have their place, but a quality soft case does a great job for most applications! The ultimate protection comes from a hard case, but those cases do have the limitations I mentioned above! For an AR-15 (like the OP mentioned) I'm plenty happy with my soft case. On the other hand, if I was storing a $25,000 antique shotgun, I might opt for the hard case... To each their own!

As an afterthought, I remember seeing a hard case/soft case combo that Storm was offering at one point. It looked like a neat setup, where the soft case would nest inside of a hard shell when needed. I'd be interested in a setup like that, and it may also work for the OP, depending on his circumstances!

Co-Kevin, yeah I remember I seen something like that too, Eberlestock Drag Bag, made for a longer rifle though, for $269 you get both case and bag. But you could probably buy any soft rifle case and find a hard case that would fit well inside.

And LaRue makes one too.

Or from OneSourceTactical.com their "Sneaky Covert Bag" made to look like a skateboard bag (well I think so)

I opted for this $25 cheapo case from Dick's.

I keep my AR w/ EOtech 512 in it, and no problems. I do not have a lot of scopes, spotters, tools, other optics, or anything, so that case works just fine for simple transport of a single gun. I put way more money of course into my real gun protection: a safe, which is where the AR stays when at home.

I'd agree with jerk with the point that I hate having to take my hardcase completely out of my truck just to get the rifle out. The drag bag lets me slip the rifle out of the bag without taking the whole setup out of the back seat. I realize that it can still be done, but that's the "lot more trouble" I agree with.

I only have one hard case because of this one issue.
As much as I like the look of the form-fitting foam-lined case, I prefer drag bags.

Hard cases are a lot more trouble than a good soft case.

I'm pretty sure I don't want to check a soft case on an airline.......

I prefer the Galati drag bag too, but I don't want to trust the contents to the airlines baggage system.

Thanks for the source ideas guys, I'm looking into one.

Yup those are the reasons I don't like hard cases. They weigh too much and they're too hard to get around with. I've got something like the drag bag for my AR's it even has some magazine pouches on one side.
