I've just picked a AR-15 and was looking at changing the stock to a collasible, what is involved? I've seen a wrench in some books will I need one? I've got the factory GI style now. Any help?

At this time I can't remember, but I didn't use any special tools. I think the hardest part was unscrewing the buffer tube, but that's it. You should be able to handle it. Watch when you take it off, I believe there is a spring in front of the tube that will take off. There is also another small spring on the lower part of the buttstock when you go to remove it from the reciever.

You'll need a collapsible stock wrench in order to tighten the nut that holds the buffer tube on with a collapsible stock. I recommend not buying the cheap GI version sold in many places and buying the dedicated armorer's wrench that includes this as one of its tools instead. Otherwise, the only thing you need is a screwdriver and it is pretty basic stuff.

Use blue loctite on the threads of the retaining nut. Even then they will tend to work loose every now and then; but tightening with the armorer's wrench and using loctite will make these incidents less frequent.

Like everyone else said you can handle it , Get the wrench
There is alot of pics and will walk you right through it

some rifles have the nut on there really tight, my friends bushy needed cutting or heavy duty torquing to get it off or something like that. Mine came off easy and I just used the cheapy gun show wrench to put the new one on and loc-tited it in.
