Are there any online guides on how to detail strip an AR-15, particularly how to take out, disassemble/reassemble, and reinsert the trigger group?

Also, is it possible to take the front sight/gas tube off an upper receiver and replace it with a quad rail gas tube? IE: not just getting a new barrel/upper but actually removing the front sight and replacing it with a rail.

Plenty of videos on the net. Most of the videos on how to build an AR15, contain the info you need. Search for instructions on putting a free float tube on. That'll address taking the gas block off and replacing it.

This one does the gas block.

Thanks, the Brownells video doesn't really say how to remove it, just how to put a match grade trigger in. I'm not looking to replace anything with aftermarket parts, just how to remove the stock trigger group and then put it back in.

Well that's pretty easy.
-Take the Upper off, lower the hammer slowly (don't let it fall).
-Knock out the pin for the hammer. Remove hammer.
-Take out the pin for the trigger. Remove trigger. Sometimes it's hard to maneuver around the safety lever, but it'll usually come out.

To remove the safety lever, take the pistol grip off. There's a spring and plunger that the grip holds into the receiver. Remove spring and plunger. Safety lever slides right out.

Hammer has to be removed before trigger. Notice how the springs are oriented when you remove the parts. Assembly is the reverse of installation.

It is as simple as it sounds. Find a screw driver that has a shaft the same size as the pins. It makes a nice assembly tool to get everything in place.

Go look at the online guides at AR15.com in the build it yourself section.

You'd be better of just using 2 piece railed handguards instead going through the whole front sight removal free float handguard thing.

A good one is the Daniel Defense Omega 7.0, it's free float and doesn't require the removal of the front sight assembly. Super easy to install and solid.

If you have a digital camera, take plenty of pictures if there is any question on how the parts go, that way you are sure to get the parts all back the way they are supposed to go.

If you are taking close-up shots, most cameras now have a macro setting (so you can be like 8" from the object).
