AR-15 Vise Jaws...hmmm...

I've changed a lot of barrels but always used receiver blocks. I'd like to start using barrel blocks. Brownells sells the set pictured here. The problem is that according to the catalog these will work for A1 barrels, but I'm not really sure I see how, now that I've got them in hand. The openings that would clamp on a barrel with the A1 OD are the ones pictured on the outside of the horizontal jaws in the picture.

That would mean that the jaws would go into the vise in an arrangement that would basically look like the picture above but with the left and right sides reversed, which seems to present some problems in terms of getting a good clamp in the vise jaws.

Seems like I need something in the inside of the jaws to support them. Maybe a piece of 2x4 cut to just less than the inside dimension? Guaranteed that I'm missing something obvious...so what is it?
