Oddly enough in north Texas there seems to be a premium on AK's instead of the AR's. I am seeing AK's go for 1 or 2 hundred more than a comparable AR.
As far as 7.62X39 vs 5.45x39, the previous poster makes an extremely good point. During the great Ammo Famine of 2013, 5.56 vanished or went above a dollar a round. AK-47 ammo spiked considerably in the last 9 months. 5.45x39, 7.62X54R (and 30-06 but that's my battle rifle ammo of choice) did not spike AT ALL.

I think logisitics is starting to become a consideration for more shooters. [Which is a good thing]
If I had to do it all over again, I'd go 5.45 AR with a custom upper. If (God forbid) the SHTF, assuming you are still up and kicking you can always scavenge 5.56 uppers and ammo from other places by the time you run through a few thousand 5.45 rounds. YMMV of course.
