I am looking for some advice on .223/5.56mm ammo for my new Stag Arms AR. I am looking for inexpensive (by today's standards) ammo to stock up on.

I have heard so many things back and forth about steel cased Wolf - I am very apprehensive to purchase any.

Right now I am considering PMC brass cased .223 Rem rounds. I am on a tight budget so every dollar counts.

Any thoughts on the matter?

Thanks - Rourke

I think Federal XM193 is the best ammo for the price right now - 40 per 100 for good ammo. It seems to be in stock at all my local shops.

i like pmc my ar wont shoot wolf. if you go to wolf use 62 grain or bigger if they make it. if it cycles use it.id make sure of that first before i bought any mass quantity ammo. the wolf jams can be really bad sometimes. i havent had any probs with pmc in my ar-15. my mini14 loves wolf and thats all she gets. pmc for the ar. the pmc has a much louder crack than wolf does.

Take a look at PMC 223A. Also, check out privi partisans offerings.

My AR (Bushy upper) will shoot steel cased Wolf without a problem. However, I have a buddy with a Stag that does have issues with Wolf (it sticks up in the chamber)- I would buy a box or two before buying quantity if you did decide to shoot it.

I just bought a 1000 rounds of PRIVI its the sch!t. Match grade decent price....But if you want a really good deal get the federal XM193..Ammo prices are stupid high everywhere right now so don't expect great deals. Widener's has 1k of Federal XM193 for $396 which is acceptable.

I practice exclusively with wolf 55gr HP in my stainless barrel Bushmaster rifle. Decent accuracy and excellent reliability. You have to try different ammo in your rifle to see what it will run on.

^^

I broke open some boxes that I bought last night that have a mix of rounds with and without the NATO Cross on the casing. All were marked "LC 08"..

pmc is good stuff, well it runs, wolf is alright in my ar as long as you don't let the gun get too hot, rounds like to get stuck in the chamber. i recently ordered a .22lr conversion kit for my ar, and i am looking foward to trying that out. ammo is just getting to expensive these days.
