So, for the next AR, I think I want to do a homebuild, just for the experience of it. I've got the assembly guide and just need to start slowly accumulating the parts & tools. I am patient and understand it won't happen very quick, and that's okay. I have a rough idea of what I want to do: I want more of a long-range target shooter. So thinking 20" barrel, A2 stock, flat top for some optics, no front sight, etc. But I am not entirely set on anything yet, and that isn't really important.

I am just wondering what websites you guys are checking regularly for parts as they come in, and if you've had any luck yet. Currently I only have about 3 that I routinely check, but I know there are a lot more out there. As things slowly start to trickle back into "in stock" status, it would be nice to have about a dozen "favorites" that I can check every night just to see if there is anything I can get. This list would also be beneficial once the panic recedes, for comparing prices and such.

Assume I need everything, and have no real allegiance to any brand or company. Thanks!

I don't think any one company is more likely to provide than another. It's really luck of the draw right now.

Barrels and upper receivers are still around, but lowers and bolt carrier groups are in very short supply. BCG shortage has held up my order with DSA since mid-October.

Yeah, I know, but that is sort of the point. Right now I just check PSA, BCM, Stag, somewhat regularly. But I am sure there are other companies out there with good products at fair prices. So the more websites I can routinely check, the better chances of getting lucky :)

I bought parts from the following for my build

Palmetto State Armory
Midway USA
Brownells
Ranier Arms

I also checked

Stag
Daniel Defense
Bravo Company

I'm in a similar position to the op. I've been frustrated by the short supplies of parts for really over 2 years. It seems when ever I have the time/money/intrest, then the suppliers are out of the things I want for a whole project at once. So I'm starting to piece it togther over time.

Prices and availablity has been all over the map for several years. Just stupid now. I'm assuming supplies will start to reapear in the comming months.

Sites I check are Midwayusa, Brownells, DSA, Stag, BCM, PSA, CMMG, AR15.com, 300blktalk.com/forum/

BravoCompanyUSA.com
Rainierarms.com
GRTactical.com
AIMSurplus.com
Brownells.com

You should be able to pick up everything you need from these sights to build just about any type of AR you want. However, with the current political situation in our country you'll be lucky to find anything AR related in stock.

Lots.

Of note, though, is the fact that when I found out DSA was back ordered, I started looking elsewhere for other pistol/SBR uppers. No one online had squat in the sub-$1,000 range. The next day, I went to the local gun show and scrounged a couple parts, then visited two other shops and came up with the rest of what I needed to assemble a 7.5":

A few weeks went by, my order was supposed to have shipped, but still hadn't, so I went to the Tanner show and turned up a screamin deal on a BCM 12.5" upper that I promptly installed a low-pro gas block and 13" FF rail on (same lower):

So, in the end, the vast interweb could not provide, but local vendors did. I have a feeling my SBR stamp will come back before I see the DSA upper.....

Parts

I just got two lowers from wideners had to wait 3 weeks. Rguns had bcgs last week they were out of the black one but had the nickel boron.

I have ordered 3 lower parts kits from PSA. Ordered two about a week ago and apparently got the last one for tonight.

Check ar15.com. Not trying to direct traffic from this site, but there are some stickied threads with updates of what's in stock. That being said you have to either be lucky and find the updates at the right time, or constantly watch them for someone to post their finds. In the lower receiver thread someone posted instruction on how to install a plugin for your browser that will notify you of a change in a particular website. For example, you can set it up to notify you if PSA changes from "out of stock" to "in stock" on their lower parts kit. Again, you'll have to be at your PC at the time of the notification in order to score the deal since high demand parts are out of stock in usually minutes. I haven't tried it myself since I'm only at a PC at certain times of the day.

One word of caution is to be careful with BCGs right now. Some sites are selling unbranded units made from questionable steel. I'm holding out instead of paying the inflated prices for no-name parts right now (although I did pay a premium for my lower just in case they wouldn't be available later). Stick with reputable sites and you should be ok.

Hope that helps and good luck with the build.

Citizens armory is on my list and their shipping is very cheap.
I also didn't see Aims surplus listed above.

I USED to get great deals from eguns and have no idea what happened to him. Then I would get most of my magpul stuff from westernsportsonline. Of course bravoco skdtactical and brownells are still great places to look. Just before the hysteria I was getting great deals from lewisarmsco where I bought 200 pmags in November. (split between a few friends here on Thr).

I used to like global tactical for barrels. And I've ordered prob 20 lower parts kits from white oak.

I shop rainier arms a lot but never seem to buy anything from them.
