AR Charging handle question

I just bought a tac latch for my charging handle, and I cannot get that damn latch pin out...I do not have a 1/16 inch pin punch handy, but I have something similar to one, and I just can't punch it out for some reason.

Is there a certain technique I need to use to get it out?

If I remember right you have to push in a little to take the tension off of the pin. (that and a small tapper hammer)

I have been trying for the past 2 hours and can't get that damn thing out...I guess I'm gonna run to the store and get a 1/16 punch...I seem to be tearing up my charging handle.

It only goes in/out in 1 direction. I used a drill bit.
