Sorry guys, but I'm still learning. If I get a 20" rifle upper do I have to do anything to my collapsible stock carbine lower besides change the buffer? Or do I even have to change the buffer? Do I have to change my buffer tube? Do I have to change the buffer spring? I would really like to keep the collapsible stock as it seems to me to be even handier with with the rifle upper.

No change to the lower necessary unless you decide to run with an A1 or A2 fixed stock.

That change would require a different buffer, spring, tube combination to work.

Awesome, so I can keep that lower original! The guy at the gun shop told me I would have to buy the new tube, spring and buffler? Maybe he was just trying to make a bigger sale?

In my opinion, the 20" uppers look kind of out of place on a Carbine lower with the tele-stock.

My favorite 20" set-up is the A1 pencil barrel Upper with an A1 buttstock. I am not a fan of the longer A2 Stock. Triangular A1 or Round A2 guards and you're good to go.

I like my 14.5 SBR and 16" carbines, but the 20" A1 is a range favorite.

You should be good to go. But a selection of heavier buffers may be a wise thing too invest in.

I like the Magpul ACS stock to even out the feel of a long barrel on a carbine lower. All my AR's have adjustable stocks. I use a different stock setting for prone/sitting/standing.
