AR15 16 inch vs 20 barrel ?

Hi guys, new here, I am from CA and I just recently bought the fallowing parts for my AR, I was wondering if I made the correct choice with buying a 20inch barrel? would anyone be able to list Pros and Cons between the two ?

Well, I have 1 14.5" (w/ a 1.5" perm flash hider), 2 16's, and one 20".

They all get work, they are all VERY fun and useful for a variety of reasons. Personally though, I am fond of the shorter barrels. My 14.5" is probably my favorite.

It also partially depends on what type of uses you have it for. My 14.5" is my "go to" gun, and since I live in more of a suburban setting, I think it's perfect.

My next AR may be an SBR. I haven't determined that yet... but I can't deny that it is extremely tempting...

Thing is, you're gonna likely ened up with another AR soon anyways, and then you can get your 16".
 
It all depends, what kind of shooting do you want to do with it? Since you ordered a varmint upper, I'm guessing you are more concerned with long range accuracy than light weight and manuverability. If so, then you picked a good one.
 
Barrel length is more personal taste than anything else. I have a strong preference for the 20 inch. The way I see it is the only thing the .223 really has going for it is velocity. The shorter barrel really doesn't give you anything in return for the loss of sight radius and velocity. I guess if I needed to operate the rifle from a vehicle or do CQB, my view might be different, but I don't do either.

And I have always liked the 16" CAR setup, but now that I live in NJ, and can't have a collapsible stock, I am starting to like the longer barrels better. I think fro my next AR upper I will get a 18” barrel (1:7.5) with a wily (sp?) chamber and skeletonized stock.
 
For Your first/only AR ?

20 inch would be my suggestion. I also have had 16 and 24 inch examples. Have a Ball! Essex
 
The 20" will make a fine rifle.:D

Just remember to lock the mag in place with the Prince 50 kit before attaching the pistol grip or the stock (the California AW thing, you know).

Some time in the future, you'll probably want to upgrade to a 2 stage trigger from White Oak.
 
thank you for the quick replys, I figured out that i could use the search engine now, being a regesterd user =)

i came across a few threads regarding how stainless steal seems to have a shorter barrel life, difficult to clean, and ammo picky =/ compared to the chrome line barrel

NOTE: you could use that stock from californiarifles.com & still be able to drop mags :rolleyes:
As for the right barrel length. I have gone w/ the shorter lengths. Velocity is not an isse w/ me but I really like the portability of the 16" barrels
 
Scope is a cheap Trashco. I've since replaced it with a 6.5x24x42 Trashco that was robbed off my 17HMR.

Mount is a Larue Tactical QD SPR 1.5

Excellent mount. Comes on and off quick and returns to zero every time.

More gratuitous AR nudity w/the big Trashco varmint scope.
