I just bought my first AR15 yesterday, DPMS AP4. It is chambered in 5.56x45, was thinking about getting the 308 but there's always next time right. Anyway the sales person was telling me that I should not run hollow point through it, I'm not sure I would anyway, but that is what he said. He says that it can get jammed while the round goes from the mag to the chamber. I've never heard this but I am sort of new to the semi auto rifle world. Is this a well know problem with hollow point ammo in the AR? Oh one more thing he said, he has a DPMS, Bushmaster, and a colt AR. The DPMS has this problem, Bushmaster has the problem, but the Colt will eat anything. Thanks for any info you have-

More Gunstore Commando BS!

If your DPMS, or any other brand of AR, won't run with HP there is something wrong with it, or the magazine.

He's half right.I was told and had read that wasr ak's lack a proper bullet guide and that the rifle should be "broken in" on fmj.Maybe he just mixed up his rifles.

There's no such thing as a .223 HP with a big enough mouth to cause real issues. Soft points, maybe.

That said, M4 feed ramps have been known to assist in feeding non-FMJ ammo. Personally, I'd get a box of anything you think you might want to shoot and give it a run. It will either work, or you will see where it is binding and you can remedy the situation. Those fixes can be as simple as taking down the ridge on the inside front of the mag or having someone cut the aforementioned M4 ramps into the rifle.

(but odds are it will feed most anything you buy for it)
