I recently completed my first AR15 build. A DPMS upper with a 16" barrel and a full length handguard on an LAR lower. I've put about 50 rounds thru it so far and found that it doesn't like monarch 55gr loads. After i've shot it some more will it break in and cycle with more loadings? I'd also like to buy some accuracy enhancing extras. What should i get? Keep in mind i'm going to use the iron sights. I already have a national match 2 stage trigger. Everything else is standard.

Well, with the trigger and barrel already bought; upper assembled, it's my opinion that anything else you buy is just a gimmick as far as increasing accuracy in any meaningful way (outside of match type shooting).

What twist rate is the barrel?

Sounds like after whatever optic you decide on & some ammo your gun likes, you're done!
Load, Shoot, enjoy ;)

A free float handguard will increase accuracy. Also, with most models, it will promote better barrel cooling by allowing more airflow under the handguard. A JP handguard is on my "to buy" list. A National Match aperture might help too. Aside from that (assuming you're not looking to replace a brand new barrel), better ammo is probably a good bet

Absolutely what nico said.

A free float tube has the capability of literally shrinking your groups in half - across all ammo types. Even if not a 50% reduction, it will still be significant.

The AR is a very accurate platform due to the lock up and gas system. However, you can turn a 1.5-2moa rifle into a .75-1.25moa rifle just by free floating that barrel. A FF tube is the #1 accuracy enhancing AR modification by far.

You've got the nice trigger, so you're set there. There's really nothing else you need other than a free float job to get good accuracy. You could take a look at better optics, or ergonomics. Better grip and stock can make YOU shoot better. You could get a match crown cut on that barrel if a gunsmith thinks it will be an improvement over what you currently have.

Aside from all of this, match-ammo is your friend. A quality match-grade ammunition will allow you to get the best out of your rifle. Don't expect excellent accuracy from any standard ball ammo or from military loads.

With your current set up, nico is spot on. Get a free float tube and try different brands and weight of ammo. Don't judge your rifle after using only one type of ammo. You will have to hunt around for the "flavor" it likes best.

Good luck.

It's got a 1:9 twist and seems to like 68gr bullets. I'm already planning on the national match rear sight. Will it break in with enough rounds and cycle with more kinds of ammo though? Or will the weaker stuff always short stroke in it?
