I have a Colt AR15- A2 Carbine and am not sure if it is functioning properly. After the last shot the bolt stays cocked and the charger handle reamains in. After inserting a new magazine I have to hit the bolt release to chamber a new round. My question is this, should the charger handle be locked back also to show the rifle empty or is it operating correctly as is. Not sure if the charger handle is installed properly.

sounds like its running just fine, nothing to worry about there. the charging handle should not come back on the last shot

I don't understand your question. If the charging handle moved back, it would hit you in the face. The charging handle is locked in a closed position until you manually release it by pulling on it. That's why the left side of the charging handle has that little release lever built into it.

That's just your rifle's way of saying, "I'm out! Feed me mooooooooore!" It's much better that it does that rather than have you take the time to line up your 31st shot perfectly in a self-defense situation and hear the hammer go "click!"

Thanks guys! RNB65, you are absolutely correct, never did gave it a thought if the handle did come it would hit me in the face. Just another senior moment.
