My WASR's were early imports that replaced the SAR's and looked just like them, but were generally much better in fit and finish, especially those SAR's they were pumping out right there at the ban.
Most of what Ive seen with the newer versions is, the wood and finish vary but the couple of them Ive shot all worked and were as accurate as any of the others.
Ive had a bunch of AK's over the years, and the only ones that had accuracy and function issues, were the guns made or assembled from kits here. The guns made in the countries that issued them, no matter how rough they might have looked, were never a problem (some of those SAR's with the really bad sight cant aside, but more often than not easily fixed), other than the crappy US made compliance parts they had to put in them to import them. Once those were replaced, the guns were good to go.
My SAR's and WASR's shot every bit as well as my Krebs Saiga conversion. Even the one SAR I still have, that has "slightly" canted sights shoots well.
And if you pop a red dot on them, and run/compare them a bit more realistically, they will shoot just as well as any AR similarly equipped and shot the same way. The AR's have better "target" type iron sights, but the AK's sights are not an issue, if you're familiar with shooting them. And for closer, faster, more reactive type shooting, I find them to be the better sight, and the AK's are natural shooters for that type of shooting.
