If anyone can answer this question, please do.
I am interested in a FN FNAR. But I can buy a Browning BAR for $300 less.
I've heard that the FNAR has the same action as the BAR.....does that mean that the FNAR hi/cap mags fit the Bar? I only want a BAR if I can get hi/cap mags for Show and Tell. The highest capacity I can find is a 4 rd. THANKS!!:)

The mags would probably function but a stock BAR would lack any provision for locking them into the action...........plus, you'd necessarily have to remove the swing down magazine plate on the standard gun.

I suppose a competent smith could cobble up some sort of mag retention system or even adapt the FN style to a BAR, but to what end.........if you want a battle rife, buy an M1A!

Don't get me wrong, I own three BARs....two in '06 and one in .338.......fine hunting rifles and quite accurate as well. Still, those designs are not going to hold up to the sustained hi volume fire requirements of a real hi cap battle rifle............regardless of what FN is offering. Doubt that, well then tear down both an M1A action side by side with that FN version........the FN/BAR action is in no manner as robustly built!

The FNAR mags are proprietary.

The FNAR is an adapatation of the BAR, not identical. It is more robust than the Browning version.

....and the Browning BAR hunting barrel is not heavy enough or cooled enough for rapid 10, 20 or 30-round firing without totally overheating and losing accuracy. And as Sock Puppet implies, the FNAR action is designed to take high-count cycling; the hunting rifle action is not. Don't try to put a V-8 engine on a MoPed. Buy an FNAR. You won't regret it. I haven't.
