Are guns for CRAZY people?

Are guns that bad?
When you say the word GUN people look at you like you offended them.
When people know you carry they think your up to no good or just a loon whose paranoid?
When you talk to friends or coworker about guns other people around you like to butt in and preach to you why guns are bad and its pointless to own one and "ONLY" police and military should have them.

If I told you I carry because I rather be safer than sorry when walking around Seattle, a city thats VERY liberal with homelessness and aggressive panhandler would I be consider paranoid for my safety and love ones? I have no intention in ever using it unless my wellbeing and family are in grave danger; would that make me a loon?

Or is the person beside me preaching to me guns are DANGEROUS and if I'm having to carry where ever I go I shouldn't even bother going because I feel safer with a gun. I don't understand why guns are so bad when majority of us use it with good intension, and some of us who should of gotten a Darwin award or just be cleansed from the gene pool.

Why are people so afraid of guns when I could be sitting in front of you with a No.2 graphite pencil and stab you in the eye and the next person to the right of me then the left of me and finally the person behind me. Or is it because its loud and scary I could just point and pull in any direction and hit someone with one hit from 1inch to about 100yards with a handgun. shouldn't these people be scared of a knife more than a gun because I could bet you if someone who has a 3inch knife could take out more people than a person with a gun easily before being stopped or spotted.

If guns are that bad shouldn't we all be dead by now? Is it that bad like playing Russian roulette with an autoloader and where only still alive because it jammed?

Maybe I'm the only crazy one in this world who thinks "Guns don't KILL people, people kill people." I don't ever hear guns walking around shooting people, maybe I'm sleeping thats why or I'm just crazy and don't want to believe my Glock is going to shoot me.

Ignorance breeds fear. Most people I have introduced to or taken shooting keep the respect for what guns can do but lose the fear of what they are.

Oh my yes... they are very bad, very dangerous and owning one (or, gasp! more than one!!) will make you crazy (thats right, guns cause the crazies in you). I'm not sure how it happens, but I can't think of a single friend I had as kid that wouldn't play cops-n-robbers, or cowboys-n-indians. We used to love pretending to shoot each other. My older brother often got the games started...

Now though, 30 years later, he won't let me in his house until I lock my carry piece in the car.
he won't let his kids can't even have a squirt gun, and not just the semi-realistic looking ones... he won't even let them have the silly cheap pink and green ones that you find in the cereal aisle at the grocery store. He won't let me take them shooting. He has conveniently forgotten that our cousin used to take us shooting all the time at the family cottage. Something happened in his brain that has turned him into an anti...

I just hope its not genetic.

Well, actually, I think the answer is "yes" - at least as far as cultural pressures try to make them so. Recently, I did some reading of articles suggesting that the CDC and other groups (ones we're all familiar with - medical associations, etc.) have had an agenda for quite a while to cast firearms as either an "epidemic" (to be cured by elimination), or as a social deviancy.

In recent discussion on another forum, in fact, it was quite clear that despite being as reasonable and unruffled as I could be (and usually I don't care how others feel about guns, I just like to present my side when I can), it was not possible to shake certain other posters' belief that someone who owned/carried/enjoyed firearms could not possibly be a regular person.

The implied behaviors ranged from simple inability to interact socially, to inability to understand "real-world" logic, to implications of repressed homosexuality. Despite comments to the contrary by several posters, the core "anti-gun" folks clung to the basic premise: if you own guns, and especially if you carry them, you are not right.

It's ridiculous, but at least in that venue, the armor was impenetrable.

No. Of course it depends on what you mean by "for". If you mean to shoot a crazy person who is in the middle of gunning down some school kids than yes. Gererally the mentally ill should not have firearms if they have been deemed a danger to themselves or others. Opinions vary of course.

Well no again. Of course I am in the military, but very few people in the military think that only the military and police should have them. My non-military friends (of which I have a few), also agree. Of course I can pick my friends.

Just because you are paranoid does not mean that they are not out to get you. Seriously though when I am in a high crime city I always carry.

Well I don't know about all of that but now that I think about it there are some bad guns. Anything made with Damascus Steel comes to mind.

Knives are not sexy. When did the bad guy in a movie last carry a knife?

Well, if you think guns are bad than maybe one night it will sneak in your room and do you in. But that seems unlikely as it would be a first in recorded history. Sounds like you are going through some deprogramming. Stick around it is a fun process.

Most of the people I associate with either own, or want to own guns. I don't see this anti stuff much. at the worst, they are uninterested. One friend likes to come to the range with me every once in a while, but hes not interested enough to own or carry.

The sad truth is that Antis (and many liberals) have been so ingrained with the idea that feelings are more important than fact, that they can no longer tell the difference.
Tell someone from Seattle that six nineteen-year-old gangsta wannabes were gunned down in a drive-by committed by a rival gang over drug turf. THe only things the average person from Seattle(or try Boston for laughs) will hear are the words "six","-teen","gun", and "drive-by".
It's selective hearing. These words combine to ellicit an emotion from them. In their mind, six kids have been gunned down in a senseless act of violence.
The truth is that both parties were involved in illegal activities, were adults by the legal definition, and were gang members who likely had no qualms about hurting others. I see no reason to have any emotion there, with the possible exception of feeling down about the way society is going.

Gun owners, on the other hand, are largely people of fact, who reserve their emotions for times when they are needed and appropriate. The love of our families makes us want to protect them from evil, and to do so, we feel it's best to be armed with a gun. A gun doesn't have to be shot to protect. There are numerous cases of someone being threatened in a dark parking lot and merely uncovering their piece to scare the perp away. These cases you don't hear about because they aren't sensational enough for news, and because they often go unreported. Instead, you only hear of the shootings, which given the number of criminals, guns, and criminals with guns, are blessedly few.
Those of us that want to expand places where you can carry legally are interested in stopping these massecres before the body count rises, especially to the point that it includes us. Truth is, you can't save the first one. You rarely can save the second and third, but the fourth on are mostly preventable if someone can take the shooter down. Whether it's a cop, security guard, or carry permit holder, the results are what matter. When there's no cop around (phone call+six minutes away), and the security guard is unarmed, who's left?
With numbers and/or proximity, a shooter can be brought down by the unarmed, but I'd rather engage them from a distance and increase my personal chances for survival than have to rely on luck.

So take heart, friend from Seattle, you're not alone, and you obviously are calling into question that which you are exposed to every day. Move away from there if you get a chance. Try Utah, where everything gun is fine. Ohio's nice this time of year, though finding a place to shoot is sometimes difficult. Heck, Alaska is gun friendly, if you can bear the cold and the bears.
