I checked my email and found one from gunalertsupdates telling that the Department of Homeland Security issues a report labelling us rightwing extremists. Here's an excerpt from that email:
"...According to news reports, the Department of Homeland Security is warning law enforcement officials about a rise in "rightwing extremist activity," labeling citizens opposed to new firearms restrictions, returning veterans and conservatives as "rightwing extremists" and associating them with white supremacists and violent antigovernment groups. ..."

So, we are being demonized. You saw that coming, I' sure. I'm sending letters to my US House Reps and Senators asking that the recent DHS report that slanders us by labelling us as extremists be condemned. Please help by doing the same.

I'm also sending letters to my state house reps and senators asking that our citizens be protected from persecution due to exercising their most basic rights of free speech.

We're not even six months into this presidency and things have already gotten ugly...

So here then is the question: How can we, as gun owners and supporters, get our government to realize we are not terrorists?

Here's is what I originally proposed as ACTION above:

Step 1.
...I'm sending letters to my US House Reps and Senators asking that the recent DHS report that slanders us by labelling us as extremists be condemned. Please help by doing the same.

Step 2.
I'm also sending letters to my state house reps and senators asking that our citizens be protected from persecution due to exercising their most basic rights of free speech.

If you got ideas for steps 3 and 4, great, but please at least help by doing the first two

This isn't news for any of you, but I'll repeat it for those of you who have had your posts deleted.

Activism is not an open commentary forum.

Present a plan, refine the plan.

That's pretty much it.

Wander far enough from that simple rule and posts will be pruned to preserve the thread for a while.

As to this thread, what letters, to whom, what do you want to tell them? Vague "right your congresscritter" threads aren't plans. More detail is needed.

i have step # 3-4 = make sure in your mail to let them no that if anybody should be labeled its our press Obama. it was him not us who sat and listened for YEARS!!!! to REV. Wright and Bill Ayers. Id also let them and every one else you no that in 2012 its time to vote out all incumbents. both party's are so screwed up. its time to just start over. IMO

I am pretty concerned about this as I am a vet and have been treated for ptsd. Every time I buy a gun I wonder if I will be refused by the background check.

Besides writing your congressmen and senators you can let the public know with a T-shirt that we Constutionalists are being labeled as "extremists".

Wait... so I'm an extremist for supporting the bill of rights?

Sounds like homeland security is losing their mind. I heard a rumor that they also asked police to write down the license plate numbers of anyone sporting a religious symbol or a political symbol on their vehicle.

I think maybe Bush went overboard by creating this Department. It sounded shady before, but now it just sounds like an office to monitor and restrict free speech, press, and take aim at our rights.

I'm buying one of those shirts Cannonball is sporting. What better way to protest this crap than to wear it?

you shouldn't be worried, considering the "mental health" disqualification is aimed at persons who are committed to a mental health facility or are found to be mentally incompetent. Seeking treatment for PTSD is like a recent divorcee seeking counseling for depression, I don't know how they would classify the two as "mentally incapacitating".

Yes

I guess if being a Navy Veteran, conservative, gun owning, registered voting,God fearing, Flag waving, 2nd Amendment supporting, NRA member is a right Wing Extremist. I am guilty as charged. Gee, I hope thats not a felony, because I want to be able to buy more guns. Activist strategy is: Vote them ALL out............

More true for PTS; APA lists PTSD (the "D" is important here) as potentially incapacitating. Now, APA finds many things incapacitationg too. And, occasionally does not seem over-worried about anything so concrete as permanent v. temporary. However, mention gun ownership and they can ge their support garments in a bit of a knot.

PTSD keeps getting mentioned as potential disability in a number of aspects of life. And, leaving such definitions up to bureaucrats is largely an act of faith.
