Are your CCW's really concealed 100% of the time?

Lets take my dad for example...

Ex police officer...concealed carries 100% of the time a Sig P226 in a Desantis paddle holster, strong side carry...

We live in the desert...it is hot...that equals less clothes in the summer months. Most of the time he is in jeans with a polo type shirt, or t-shirt....50% of the time, that sig is as visible as it gets. Whether it be printing, or just plain sticking out from under his shirt, or even worse, sometimes the shirt gets hiked up over the gun and it is out in the breeze.

He has been carrying like this for as long as I can remember....everywhere....stores, church, banks etc.....He has been carrying so long he never remembers it is there, or to check whether it is concealed.

Funny thing is, I have never seen anyone look twice...No one seems to notice, and if they do, they dont seem to care.

My theory is that is has a lot to do with the way he looks....Balding, wider in the gut than the chest....he LOOKS like a retired officer...but in a non-threatening manner. I think that may be the secret to why no one has ever gotten upset by the sight of his gun....

However, even if someone did make a call to the PD...nothing would happen...he knows too many people on the department, including the sherrif. Aside from that, he has practically single handedly cleaned up an entire neighborhood (where his office building is) through a 2 1/2 year citizen's-arrest-a-thon that produced 47 arrests in that time period of everything from hookers, to drug dealers, to armed bank robbers....The local PD knows him, and likes him. What was called "crack alley" is now just called Royal Crest St....it's rightful name.

All of the people in the neighboorhood think that his office building is some sort of covert police sub-station. And when I am there, doing some lawn maintenance, or painting or whatever...people walking by wil ask me if it is...I tell them that "I am not at liberty to say". And they give me a smile and a look that says "I KNEW it!":rolleyes:
 
Oh ya...the point of this thread was to ask the question: have any of you carried so long that you are getting sloppy, and dont seem to care?
 
I've carried every day over 20 years and I dont think I've gotten sloppy about it. I'm still pretty diligent about keeping it hidden. I dress to hide it and attitude has a lot to do with it. In all that time, I've only been snagged once, that I know of, and that was due to a bump by a friend. I know what you mean about "forgeting its there". I'd say you do, but you dont. I think its more that your just so accustomed to it being there that you do things to take care of it without realising your doing it. When I'm going about what I'm doing I dont think about it being there, but as soon as I'm around others, I'm conscious of position, movement, etc., but its more "sub-conscious" than worry. For the most part, people are oblivious to whats going on around them. I think you could probably walk around with your pistol hanging out and the majority would miss it, or wouldnt really know what it was at first glance, especially with all the cell phones, etc on peoples belts these days.
 
i "don't care" in the sense that if someone sees it, well too bad, my mistake. i "do care" in the sense that if i am in the North End of Hartford (ghetto, criminal haven), that I don't expose or even print my firearm in the sense that if they know I'm carrying, it'll be easy for them to see it, beat the crap out of me, take it, and have a gun on the streets in the wrong hands. Also, if I had to use it in the North End, I want that element of surprise on my side BIG TIME.... (i drive a wrecker and frequently carry cash = target for robbers)

Really old! I've been carrying concealed for a long, long time and have always believed that concealed means concealed - all the time! So, I haven't gotten sloppy - hope I never do 'cause that's the time to stop carrying - period. Good shooting;)
 
Yep. ALL the time.

I've carried every day since 1987 and my CCW is never, ever visible. Even people that know I carry a gun don't know where it is. They've asked me if I'd left it at home because they can't find it.
 
Always concealed. I am very careful to insure that I don't print or flash.
 
To answer the question - YES!

I carry in California, and here, 'Concealed' means HIDDEN = you 'print' or 'flash', you lose! No problem in cool weather, but in the hot months I carry a stainless steel "Mousegun" in my pants pocket.:uhoh:
 
Nobody would ever have any idea that I was carrying. I try to not even tell friends and family that I carry because people gossip and the word gets out.

My gun is always concealed very well and even doing tasks that require a lot of reaching and moving wouldn't reveal it. How I carry has become habit, so as long as I manage to keep the habit... I shouldn't get sloppy.

Heck, even in my dreams once I managed to get through a metal detector and pat down from an airport security guard unnoticed. :D Don't ask me why I took a gun through a metal detector?! At least I'm much brighter in the awake world.

You sure about that? I don't think so.

I've been carrying for a long time and it's always concealed. I think you have to in Indiana.

Even if you didn't have to I can't imagine many retail stores/restaurants allowing you to walk around openly armed alarming the "sheep".
 
Unless there is a local ordinance one can legally open carry in Indiana. But if you're on private property, it is the owner of said property's perogative whether or not they allow you to be on their property.
 
So in other words you had better carry it concealed! I suppose you'd be OK on the sidewalk or in a park but the minute you stepped into a store or restaurant and some customer freaked out they would most likely ask you to leave (or call the cops, etc.).

Open-carry just doesn't work in today's USA.

I wish it could. :(
 
Don't always carry, but when I do, its always hidden.

Its not hard. That problem has been solved for a long time.
 
Webhobbit- You have to be selective about where you carry. You obvious can't carry in Circle Center but it should be okay if you're out in the country and you stop to get gas or if you're just going to be in your car travelling. I wouldn't want to open carry in a very public place anyway.
 
I see...so really it's best to leave my vest around for when I "go into town" so to speak.

If I lived out in the country that bit would benifit me greatly. I live in the middle of Evansville so the only time I open carry is sometimes when I run out to the car for something or take out the trash. I'm sure a few neighbors have probably glimpsed it but I've never noticed a reaction.

Also my in-laws live out in Spencer County...sometimes when we visit them I'll walk around his property (farm land , fields, etc.) I'll "uncover".
 
Webhobbit- Its fun open carrying sometimes, even if you're out in the middle of nowhere. In some states you can get into big trouble if you open carry in your car for example. But luckily, Indiana has pretty decent sense when it comes to firearms laws.
 
Always concealed unless I'm around people that don't care - shooting range, friends at home, etc. I'm always conscious of the status of my weapon's covering - shirt, jacket, whatever. Apparently I'm pretty good at keeping it hidden, since my last girlfriend didn't know I carried every day until I took it off before we went to bed one night (I always go low for a hug, that helps - her arms around my neck means they are away from my pistol).
