Just because he is tough on criminals doesn't mean we should like him. He would happily have you living in a tent in the desert if your barrel was a 1/2 inch short.....
IOW, he would have the audacity to enforce the law? Ya think??

Err...
The SWAT unit will be rebuilt with other officers who will also perform patrol duties, he said.
Deputies are being recruited for the new team, which will resume taking assignments after its members are trained, Arpaio said. "It’s time to get some fresh blood in there, to give other deputies a chance to be on the team," Arpaio said. "We’re trying to get more deputies on the streets, so our new deputies will be doing other jobs, too, including patrol, to help our response times."

The team is not being disbanded - it's membership is being rotated...

Probably not a smart move as some of 'em say in the article, but making sure your politically loyal officers get the best jobs is not uncommon in SOs anywhere.

Love what he's doing in the jail.

So he's not against class three stuff - according to Sumpnz...

Just what'd he do on the Penn and Teller show? Act tuff?

Don't see much actual stuff so far that isn't to like.

Go Sheriff Joe!!

Never seen a Police Department that wasn't political. Not that many years ago even the rank and file were changed after an election.Far as what a Swat Leader in LA has to say. Being LA I wouldn't put much faith in what any poilitcian says. Being a Swat Leader their he to is nothing more then a politician. I can guarantee anyone not living in AZ. You will find very few conservatives that are against Joe. In fact i've yet to see the first. Most against him our the transplants from the left of us I mean the West of us and the East Coast. Here in AZ many regard the transplants as a bigger threat then the illegals

"Here in AZ many regard the transplants as a bigger threat then the illegals"

I know I'm not missing any of the ones that left. More room for the rest of us. Sorry you guys had to get some of them.

A lot of construction types left a while back and now theres a big boom going on and there's noone around to do the work. Those of us who stuck it out and hung around are now swamped. Good as far as I'm concerned.

I have no idea what the fascination is with moving to Phoenix or even Vegas for that matter. Once the construction slows down in those places there'll be a lot of construction people hanging around with nothing to do.

The construction in places like Phoenix and Vegas is not going to slow down anytime soon. Many new housing phases are sold out a year prior to construction. It is not uncommon for someone to purchase a home and then have to wait many months to a year before actually beginning move-in.

The construction will slow down, but not any time soon. The cities mentioned may have defined borders, but those borders will either grow or new cities will be incorporated. If I recall, Nevada (more specifically, Southern Nevada) is the fastest growing area in the country.

I wish we had something like that here in NV, but from what I hear, life in the CCDC isn't very pleasant. You don't have to worry about the cops so much as other inmates/detainees.
I applaud the guy! I recall seeing a news-type program do a report on Sheriff Arpaio. My favorite quote of his was "If the tents are good enough for our soldiers, they are more than good enough for our criminals."
I cheered.

Young man told me that he might drink and drive again, but not in Maricopa County!
Well, there ya go: proof that his policies work; that being tough on crime is better than coddling crime. The end result is that I am safer driving the roads in Maricopa County than if Sheriff Joe was providing a country club to the drink-and-drivers. The "young man" is safer also.
