A trusted friend has a new AR-180b. Not the old version, but the 2006 production with an AR flashhider and a taller front sight post. He wants $500 for it, only fired a few times by his girlfriend who prefers his H&K .223 pistol (why the 180b is for sale). I bought my first handgun from him and every gun he's sold me has been reliable and I've kept. I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy it and what payment plan I can work out with him. Anyone have any recommendations or postitive experiences with the newer AR-180b rifles?

I forgot to mention - my friend is throwing in the $100 scope mount made by Armalite for the AR-180b.

I've owned my AR180B for 3 years now, and fired close to 4000 rounds through it(including 2 tactical-rifle classes) - I'm well pleased with it, and would buy another in a heartbeat for $500(especially with the scope mount included). If you're not going to drop the hammer on this deal, I'd be happy to take him up on the offer...

How does the standard weight barrel do when you shoot a lot of rounds in rapid succession?

While I've been marginally happy with my AR-180B (even after a trip back to Armalite for repair), it's just a light barrel 'sporter'.

If you want very accurate, lots of bolt-on doodads, or do lots of mag dumps, you may want to look elsewhere. But for $500, I'd jump on it (heck, I jumped on it when it was over $700!).

Here's mine with an aftermarket folding stock and a 1" red dot:

I actually just traded away my 180B, but it wasn't because I didn't like the rifle, much the opposite, but it was because my local dealer had ONE beautiful, perfectly new Polish TANTAL, and I knew that the only way I could afford to get the TANTAL was to trade away the 180B.

I'm sad that I don't have it any more, but I'm a complete AK junky, and TANTAL's are going to become very rare very fast. All that said, I have nothing but the highest praise for the 180B, and if he is throwing in the optic for $500, you should jump on that deal fast.
