I am looking for an Armalite AR10 carbine but can only find them with collapsible stocks. whats the deal that you cant find them with regular A2 stocks anymore? I know you can buy an A2 stock for an extra $90 or so, is it some kind of pre ban deal?

Once the AWB sunset, all the carbines came with collapsible buttstocks.

Rifles have always had the fixed stock.

I'm sure Armalite would be happy to put it together your way for you, but it might not save you any money vs. getting the rifle and then a fixed stock later.

The carbine length barrel and gas system requires the shorter carbine buffer and buffer spring.

The collapsable carbine stock has a shorter buffer tube to match the carbine buffer & spring.
The A2 stock has a longer buffer tube for the rifle buffer and spring.

You and I may choose to mix-n-match with aftermarket parts, and we certainly do, don't we.
But Armalite policy only ships the carbine in its full carbine configuration.
And the rifle in the rifle configuration.
It's yours to screw with after that.

The 7.62 ArmaLite AR10 carbine comes standard with the collapsible M4 style butt. I would call or e-mail ArmaLite, I'm sure they can build it with the A2 stock.

The AR10 uses a AR10 specific buffer because of the longer BCG. You can use any style butt stock with any length gas system with the correct buffer and spring.

Although Armalite doesn't seem to catalog them, they do make them. I've seen a number of recent/current production ones on Gunbroker, which I assume were made for AWB-state markets like NY, NJ, MA etc. If you call Armalite or have your dealer do so I'm pretty sure you can get one. I would do a search on Gunbroker first just in case what you want is listed there.

If you decide to buy one with the telestock, be advised that Armalite does or at least used to use loctite on the rifle buffer tubes, making them very difficult to remove. Given the cost of switching to a rifle stock (with the new tube and buffer in addition to the stock itself) I would definitely try to get one setup from the factory if you really want the A2 stock.

The carbine length barrel and gas system requires the shorter carbine buffer and buffer spring.

Wrong, as madcratebuilder also pointed out. It will run just fine with the rifle length buffer and spring. This is a common misconception but it's wrong. Oh, I have an Armalite (brand) 16" midlength carbine from the ban era with the rifle tube, buffer and spring from the factory, FYI.

I'm kind of the opposite... I want the 20" barreled model with a collapsible stock. Kind of like a .30 cal A5. Fortunately for both of us there isn't an issue with the barrel length, since both the carbine and the rifle have the same dwell time. In your case, just slap on the rifle-length receiver extension, install a .308 AR rifle-length buffer and spring, and install the fixed stock of your choice. Me personally, i would like one of cav arms C1 stocks like this: http://cavalryarms.com/Merchant2/me...ore_Code=CA&Product_Code=C1&Category_Code=AFZ I like the A1 length stocks better, and these are a good price. But whatever floats your boat.
