Just some additional information about CPLs in Michigan and Detroit.

While the law allows reserve police officers to carry in gun free zones the intent was to allow them to work sporting and other events which is common in Detroit. However the law does not stipulate that the reserve officer has to be working so he was probably legal.

School employees in Detroit are not allowed to carry on school grounds so if he was an employee he probably is in trouble. If he was a volunteer, and judging by his age he may very well be he is probably has nothing to lose from being fired as a coach.

Understand that there are two distinct Detroits. The Detroit Metro area is the tri county area of surrounding suburbs. It is much like any other metropolitan area with a population of 5 million or so.

The City of Detroit is the area within the city boundaries. The difference between the city and metro area is like night and day. Population about 600,000. It is fundamentally a dysfunctional, broke, poverty stricken, drug infested, third world cesspool. Unlike some big cities, guns are not banned and just about everybody is armed either legally or illegally. Crime is rampant. Police are corrupt and slow to respond. Armed citizens are the only ones keeping a lid on things. You are pretty much on your own if you live there and only the people who can't afford to move or are too stupid to leave still live there.

You are correct. People from other states and areas have no idea what Detroit is really like. Detroit is a horrible unsafe place. Worse than anywhere in this country. I knew the 70 year old man would be arrested. It's most likely safer for him is he is off the streets. Where have all the Fathers gone?

They are all "nice guys" ...getting their life together....until you dig a little deeper and find out differently. It's sad

I'll also agree with this statement and I will add that there is a further distinction between Wayne Co. (where Detroit is located) and the rest of Michigan. At work we have a saying, "There's State of Michigan law, and then there's Wayne County law."

Reminds me of the mom in Chicago who lost four kids to gun violence. Come to find out that at least one of them was previously in a gang but was "getting his life together" as she put it.

I'm sorry but isn't getting shot kind of like an occupational hazard of being a current/former gang member?
