For those of you that have followed the threads on the attempt by US Customs to reclassify assisted opening pocket knives as switchblade and ban them from being imported, you'll be happy to know that the legislation to exclude them from the switchblade definition was successful. We won one for a change!

From Knife Rights -
WE STOPPED CUSTOMS Pocket Knife Grab! The Senate has passed the conference report for the fiscal year 2010 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill with our amendment to the Federal Switchblade Act intact. The bill will now be sent to the President for signature. There is no indication that he would veto the bill.

This is the culmination of an incredible effort on the part of Knife Rights, American Knife and Tool Institute, NRA, Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation, Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and many other organizations who contributed. Each organization made key contributions to the effort, without which the end result might not have turned out so well. Not many folks gave us much hope of succeeding when Customs first proposed revoking their rulings and redefining what is a switchblade back in May. At a time when bipartisanship is rare as hen's teeth in Washington, we garnered support from both sides of the aisle.

We succeeded because the coalition of groups that came together to fight Customs represented a broad swath of American industry and grassroots. We succeeded in large part because of YOUR contributions, letters and calls in support of our efforts. You can give yourself a pat on the back for your effort and a job well done against all odds. It is time to pop the cork on that bottle of champagne and celebrate a victory for your knife rights and for all America.

good to hear. We pay or politicians to come up with these rediculous laws and regulations. well i guess they know whats good for us.

Fantastic news, and at the same time made me think about how rediculous a ban on auto opening knives is. Thanks again Hollywood :barf:

I'm glad things worked out, although I would note how distressing it is to have to worry about what kind of knives might be banned. Knives? They really wanted to ban (change a definition regarding) knives? What is this, England?

Once again, a job well done by the organizations involved (Go NRA!). It's a good thing those organizations are keeping watch on this stuff, I had no idea that the change had been proposed.

Yes, thanks to the folks who worked so hard on this. I did my small part by sending a couple of letters, but this reflects some incredible efforts on behalf of all of us.

If you want to say "THANKS" send a letter to your congress critters thanking them. If you want to say thanks to Kniferights and/or AKTI for putting their shoulder to the wheel on this send money so they can be ready again when this sort of stupidity pops up.

Well done, gentlemen. My Kershaw gets to keep accompanying me on visits south of the border :)

I have spoken face to face with my congressman (Bishop, R-Utah) and he has assured me that he is 100% on our side, and his record demonstrates this.

This is good, but it also is a reminder that the banners never quit or sleep, so we can't either.
