Hello all. In my search for a double-action .44 Magnum, I've come across a few Astra revolvers chambered in said. They appear to be a copy of the S&W 29. Anyway, the costs are only slightly less than a Taurus or similar, so I think I will stick with that, but am curious if anyone has experience with these wheelguns. Also, if you do, how hard it is to find parts.

Thanks much.

I used to have a 44 mag Astra and still have a 45 Colt. Well made and the 45 Colt is especially accurate. I don't know about parts because I've never needed any.

I have a 4" Astra 960-which was identical to the Astra .357 except just chambered in .38 Special. It is a fun gun to shoot with a fantastic trigger pull. I haven't needed any parts either. If you ever need parts though, it will be hard to find them. Astra was the highest quality manufacturer of guns in Spain!

I love the smoothness of a Astra 357 I have the 6" model. A good solid handgun that was well made. I'm post a video on a new thread on changing the tension on the trigger.

Astra Terminator 45 LC

I just bought one.....found one in a LGS.....it is in great shape ( like new)....I had never seen a 45LC version....saw the 44 mag's back in the 80's when they were imported.....this one looks pretty much like a snub N frame......and it is 45LC.....which is fine with me as I like the 45LC....haven't shot it yet...but will soon....

I owned an Astra 6" barrel 44mag back when they were imported.
It was very accurate...
...However, after about 200rds total of commercial ammo, mainly Federal 180gn and 240gn JHPS, it developed a carry up problem. It wouldn't move the cylinder to full lockup in either DA or SA shooting.
I sold it to a gunsmith friend at a small loss because I didn't care to put money into it.
Otherwise, I would probably still have it.

I'm trying to convince my friend to trade me his Astra 3.5" .44 mag for my Virginia Dragoon .44 mag stainless steel single action revolver. The Dragoon has oversized chambers and stretches my brass to the point every one has stretch marks just like mine on them...... :(

Honestly, the Astra has better machining and finish, and the Dragoon isn't that accurate.
