Greetings everyone, I'm new to the forum but I've been lurking for quite awhile now.

I've been looking to buy my first AK, and since I can't find any decent deals in the DFW area ($549 for a WASR, yeah right) I think my best bet would be to buy one from an online retailer.

After looking around for quite awhile, I think I've found one that I like and is in my price range.

The rifle seems to be good judging by all the positive reviews here and on other forums, but I'm wondering If there is a better deal out there and if Atlantic Arms is a trustworthy dealer.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Interarms seems to be regarded well with their Tantal 74 if i m not mistaken. With the way it looks plus the price, i d go for it. Chrome barrel is a big plus. Could be built from a Romanian kit but make sure you ask questions at Atlantic . They are also well regarded for customer service.

They also have the AK 74 in red wood which is also nice. The price isnt too bad as well.

I don't know if they are still abundant, but if you find a stamped NORINCO for a decent price I would go for it.

I'm not a big fan of the AK-74's muzzle break, is it possible to remove it and add a barrel nut or AKM style slant break?

Muzzle nut, yes. Slant brake - no.

You can also stick a flash hider on it:

Mind your 922r.

The 74 muzzle break is probably one of the best ones going to reduce barrel climb. Might want to shoot it a couple of times before you decide to ditch it. I love my 74!

Ok, you guys are staring to swing me towards the '74.
I know the 5.45x39 ammo is VERY cheap right now, but when that oversupply runs out and prices return to normal, what will the price of surplus 5.45 be compared to surplus 7.62?

The majority of military surplus 7.62x39 is not importable.

Based on this, surplus 5.45x39 is always going to be cheaper.

i got that rifle a few weeks ago. Nice fit decent finish. I really enjoy shooting it. The sights aren't canted, the barrel is chromed and it goes bang every time. Accurate enough for me with irons. No side rail for cheap optic installations.

Atlantic is a good dealer. I've picked up 3 rifles from him and a box of rations.

Is there anything you would like to know about the weapon.

While you can find cheaper prices than Atlantic, the are a good company (to me).

Just got my first SAIGA from them, as everyone else is runnign out and talkign abotu not being able to get more.
