My son and I shot the August Sacramento Valley Shooting Center long range vintage military rifle match last Saturday with Swiss 1911's. Ten rounds each at 300, 500, 600, and 800 yards. There was a good cross section of rifles--Swiss, Swede and Argy Mausers, Springfield and 1917's, and Mosins. The "open" category were modified and had scopes.

My son and I both did marginally better than the last match--I got a 335/400 and he did 308/400. Oddly, my best round was the 800 yard stage--93/100-2X.

Here are the results

Sounds like fun. If there was something like that locally I'd like to run my Garand, No4 Mk1* Enfield, and K31 through it.

This is a new match that just started this year. I think it will continue in the future, perhaps 3 or 4 times a year. It supplements a monthly Vintage military silhouette match which uses the same rifles, but involves 10 rounds each at Chickens (220 yards), pigs (330 yards), turkeys (420 yards) and rams (550 yards).

Here is a link to the match rules..

The positions were all fired from the prone with a soft (backpack, sandbag, etc) front rest and no rear rest.
Awesome. I hate military rifle matches that are shot off a bench... that is not at all how those rifles were meant to be used. Unfortunately the only type of matches here locally for "stock" military rifles are Military Bolt Action Bench Rest. Occasionally a CMP shoot will come through, but they are few and far between.
