Austin Gunloving Hippies

I like to study at a place that is far and away dominated by stereotypical hippie types - it's closer than the library, and a friendly place.

As this is West Virginia, when deer season rolls around, hunting comes up in conversations EVERYWHERE, and I do mean everywhere.

Even at this little hippie coffee shop. I have yet to hear anything disparging of gun owner/ownership, and actually quite a bit of gun related talk there.

All fine and dandy, but why does Austin vote for every Democrat/communist candidate in every election, and for stuff like a smoking ban?

The smoking ban vote was 51% for / 49% against. Maybe if you'd stayed and voted, it would have been different. As far as "Democrat/communist" goes, please inform Terry Keel that he's a communist.

Glad I got out of that @#$pool!

Me too, thanks for leaving.

I was eating at this little Japanese resturant in Fort Worth over by TCU when I noticed this little sorority type checking me out.... Well, I was reading the instruction manual for taking my CHL, so I figured (correctly) that she was checking THAT out. She came over and I tensed up for a confrontation, when she sweetly asked me where I got that and how much it cost to get a CHL. I politely explained the process to her and she smiled, said thanks and sauntered off...

Heh... Teach me to stereotype...

Dude.....it's got like a free floating firing pin..........like wow.............and that extractor is just cosmic, man........totally cosmic...........

"Maybe if you'd stayed and voted, it would have been different. " Well, I got out of bed that Saturday, but, because I was not living within Austin city limits proper, I was not eligible to vote. So much for that.
"As far as "Democrat/communist" goes, please inform Terry Keel that he's a communist." Who is he? AFAIK, my "representatives" were Barrientos(D) in state Senate, some other D state representative, Dogget(D) and recently McCaull(R) in US House. I didn't vote for any of them, do not feel they represent my views, just bring more taxes and more restrictions and regulations. Same goes for city council and mayor. The only Texas county where Kerry won? Travis (Austin)!
Related to guns: on the bright side, CHL holders don't seem to have any problems in Austin.

I live in WV (Southwest) and I know lots of what would be called hippies (incl myself) who like guns. If you go to forums like Daily Kos or the Democratic Underground you'll find that the gun issue is one where the party is evenly split as far as the electorate.

I'd say I'm pretty much of a peacenik war wise but I'm all for hunting and self defense.

Oh yea, I have seen the Dead many times and first time was 4/10/83 at WVU in Morgantown.
