Austin THR Shoot in October 2006?

I'm thinking: since the January '06 THR Shoot went so well, how about another one this October?

We had about 17 folks come out last time, had a great time all around. Due directly to our meeting at the THR Shoot, MacPelto and I revived the UT Rifle and Pistol Club, so good stuff came out of that for us, and probably for some other folks.

I am _way_ too busy with gradschool, landlording, and coaching at the UT range to organize this shoot, but if anyone else wants to take the helm, it's not too bad. Somebody just needs to pick a time (recommend a Saturday but NOT on the same day as the SAXET Gunshow), pick a place, and tell folks when to show up.

Someone else who's bored at work can mine our past thread January '06 Austin thread and PM folks who did or wanted to come to January shoot. Ditto for running a post-January search on THR under "Austin" and PMing anyone with a cut-and-paste message directing them to this thread.

And anyone who's keen can post a link to this thread in their sigline so that it comes up in any other thread. See my sig line for example.

What say all? How about an October Austin THR Shoot?

TSRA State Championship Garand Match at Temple in Oct.

At the Temple Gun Club outside the North Loop of Temple, Texas. Check the TSRA site for the dates and entry.

That's a nice range run by a good bunch of guys. 200 and 300 reduced. You can shoot alongside the Garand match whether you have an M1 or not I understand.

If anyone in Austin is interested. I've always enjoyed shooting the Temple Range. Lots of expertise in the group that is putting it on, plus if you have a Garand problem, or think you do, I'm sure there will be some gunsmithing going on.

I'll be there is a LOT of gas system barrel spline peening before the match!

What we need to do to get this to work:

I'm okay managing this thread and spreading the word if a couple other people can handle the other pieces of legwork (well, keyboard/phone work).

--Somebody pick a Saturday with minimal schedule conflicts. Last time we did like 2PM-5PM and that was pretty good for everyone.

--Somebody pick a range, call them with the date we have in mind, and figure out what we need to do to get space for maybe 15-20 people.

--Once we have the date and the location, somebody pick a restaurant where some (maybe 10) of us might go eat after the shoot.

Everybody else who thinks that this is a good idea, just cut and paste my "AUSTIN THR SHOOT" advertisement into your sigline for a few weeks to make sure everyone knows about this.

The last shoot was great, we just need a few people to chip in a little effort to bring this together. Far less time is needed to arrange every detail than many of us waste on THR in a given workweek.

Would you rather futz around on the Net, or go out and shoot 50 different guns on a lazy Saturday afternoon?

I am a broke Baylor Law student, but I can spare some time on a Saturday to go shooting...that is my only relaxation in school- except for the countless hours spend checking THR for new threads. I look forward to meeting new shooters.

Rolling back to early 2007

It has been brought to my attention that October has numerous conflicts in the Texan shooting community, including some USA-Shooting and other major matches, an Outdoor Show, and SAXET.

Since October isn't good for quite a few of our members, I vote we hold off for late Jan or early Feb '07.

For those that wrote it, whoever runs the next Austin shoot will note you here on the thread, and drop you a line when we start negotiations on the next big Austin shoot.

Or if a smaller group wants to meet up together, always an option.

ive used the Austin Skeet & Rifle Range before. you can reserve the CHL range (the open one in the back). i think we reserved it for 4 hours or so. i think it ended up being like $10 per shooter.

Travis Co. Sheriffs Office has priority over this range, as they pay them some monthly fee. i think they don't use it on weekends though.

Matthew, thank you for the invite--I just got it, haven't been on the site much lately.

The Temple Gun Club folks are WONDERFUL--I used to shoot IDPA there before we moved from Austin to the hill country. I may go back soon, since Texas Tactical had to close.

Y'all DO know that Texas Tactical closed, right? Problems with new landowner, neighbors and the county. Mike is looking for a new range, but for now they are shut down.

I will do my best to make it to a January/February shoot!

Texas Garand Championship at Temple

The Texas Garand Match will be held Saturday and Sunday Oct 21 and 22 at the Temple Gun Club just of the north HL Dodgen Loop in Temple. 25.00 entry with ammo furnished. Garand, Carbine, 1903, and Forenign Military 30 round matches plus a short highpower clinic to start. Nice range and just a few miles up from Austin.
