We were at work and a guy I work with brought up the University Shooting in Montreal. He and I go back and forth on a lot of things, and one of the things that is common to our discussions is he believes everything he sees on TV, whereas I am quick to point out inaccuracies in news reports and politics. This frustrates him sometimes and he has gone so far as to imply that I am some sort of consiracy nut.
So anyway, he brings up the story of the Montreal shooting, and said something along the lines of: "you still think people should have assault weapons?" . . . here was my response:
In my best tin-foil hat voice: "The media obviously made that up, it couldn't possibly have happened."
"What do you mean?"
Me: "Well, guns are banned on universities in Canada, so the alleged shooter obviously would never hav brought a gun onto the campus. therefore, this story is fake."
Him: "That is so stupid! A guy who is planning on going on a shooting rampage isn't worried about following the laws about where he can go with his gun!"
Me: "Makes you wonder why they have those laws in the first place, doesn't it?"
Him:
At that point he just turned around and went back to work. Maybe I made him think.
