Sharon at the Phoenix Gun Turn In

Sharon came to the gun turn in at the Sunnyslope Mennonite Church in Phoenix, looking for a pistol for self defense. She shoots at Shooters World, and intends to take the pistol there to have it checked out. She has children in the Army, and she expects that they will go to the desert for some family fun with their firearms.

Sharon said "We should have weapons to protect our families and homes."


Sharon's Makarov

The pistol that she obtained, a Russian made Makarov in .380 ACP, was in excellent condition with an extra magazine.

Sharon paid $80 for it, a bargain. Later, she passed on bidding for a $50 shotgun so that another buyer could purchase it for his child. She believes that teaching children how to handle guns safely is important.

I don't have the guts to hang out at a gun buy back. I'm too afraid the police would arrest me. Rumor is, is that the cops harass people hanging around to buy the turn-ins. Good for her. If the gun is in good mechanical order, that gun would be an awesome nickel candidate with redwood grips. The adjustable sight done in black chrome.

I think I need to find my guts.

A Baikal Makarov for $80. Wow, did she ever score.

There's really nothing to go wrong with a Makarov, and even if something did you could fix it yourself cheaply. The only tools needed to work on a Makarov are a screwdriver for the grips and a pick or pliars for the disconnector spring. In the event you decide to go all the way and remove the trigger guard, I guess you could add a hammer and punch, but why would you ever need to do that? They're seriously the simplest guns ever, yet they still have an excellent trigger.
