...not yet unfortunately.

My wife moved to Indy this week. I will be following later in July/August.

We are evacuating Illinois, finally! :)

I have a lot of family in central Indiana and am looking forward to moving back there, not least of all for the radical difference in gun-friendlieness.

So, for a guy who hasn't lived in Indiana since 1988....

Where can I go to shoot high power or CMP matches (hopefully on some day of the week other than Sunday?)

Any tips on CCW rules/regs/application procedure? I already have a Florida CCW, but figure it's better to get a home-state one. How long do I have to live there before applying? How long do they take to process?

Where is a good range or gun club to join?

Where are some of the good gun stores to check out?

Welcome to Indiana.

I believe Florida permits are honored here. But if you really want an IN permit, I think you just need to fill out a few forms, pay 25 bucks and wait a little bit. Good for 4 years.

I've heard good things about Pop Guns, an Indy shop with a range. But there are probably people closer who could give better advice.

From the banks of the Wabash, under a Sycamore, where I am grilling veggies and breaded pork while playing euchre, welcome back to Indiana. :D

I left Daleyland to move back as well. Free at last, free at last. OTOH, if you were downstate, very little difference in the attitude of the people (even LEOs).

Be advised:

-be sure to put the Wildcat Rifle and Pistol Club here in Lafayette (well, Brookston) on your highpower list. We have a very active group here.
-your Flordia license is valid here as long as you are not a resident.
-my last license took 2 weeks to process. My father's, who lives in Indy, LTCH took 5 weeks last year.
-you apply at the City-County Building, IIRC Room 822, it's still just $25, a 10 and a 15 dollar money order will do it.

Welcome back to Hoosier Country where we welcome all people who wish to escape the tyranny of Illinois, or any other backwards state for that matter.

As others have mentioned, a permit is very easy to get in 99% of the state.
A few Rules though, just in case you forgot. :p
1: Gary is not really a part of the state. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying.

2: Mike Davis is not really a basketball coach, he is just a steward till Bob knight returns to deliver us all.

3: While we are technically a Northern state, any reference to us as such will be met with extreme prejudice.

4: Shoot strait, shoot often, and don't run out of ammo.

;)

Seriously though. I am a born and raised Hoosier, I love this state and have found you have a great mix of people. Even the Democrats aren't to bad.

antsi, congtatulations on you upcoming escape.

My wife was born in Fort Wayne, I was born here.
I spent most of my live in New Mexico and Arizona. She moved west about 30 years ago.
We moved back here because of MY family. Then the ingrates died.
We desperitly want out of this hell hole. I want to go west, she keeps looking back east.

Which way do I go, which way do I go? Either way we need to get out of here.

Welcome Back!

I've only been here for a year, and I love it!! Coming from IA, this is really a treat!

If your not in speedway, you want to go to the city county building, like mentioned prior.. A good place on the weekends is the Eagle Creek Park Range, http://www.ecpr.4t.com/

I think there is a club to the west, that has all the competitions etc... Might be a link in one of the other posts.

I moved here to Indiana in the late 80's from North Carolina. I like the gun laws here much better. I was only here for a few months before applying for a gun permit and it was accepted and I have held a permit for all the years I have lived here.

A couple of Indy area shops I like to do business with most often:

Albro Guns
4578 S. Emerson Ave.
Indianapolis , IN 46203
317-783-9461
[email protected]

Plainfield Shooting Supplies
3735 Shady Lane Suite C
Plainfield , IN 46168
317-839-6095

Both usually have the best prices the guns I am looking for. Bob over in Plainfield has always given me good deals on my trade-ins as well.

I will second Vader's choices... Both have treated me well!

Just helped Bob out some this week even! p22 for wifey, and some down on a 1911 for me! :) They always seem to take time to listen to what I want etc. Can't beat his prices either!

As a longtime resident of Indiana, born in West Lafayette, and who is now living in NJ, I suggest you enjoy yourself. I miss Indiana. :(

I'm probably going to move to Florida in the next couple of years, but it could always end up being Indiana. What is the market like for LE jobs in your area?

Economy has made new hires tough. WLPD and LPD are understaffed because of population growth and budget concerns.

If you want to be a copper here, Purdue University PD is for you. Hope you like high pay, excellent benefits, overtime and boredom. (Remember, "Mall Cop" on Bob & Tom?):D

The Year 2007, a fine April afternoon, Officer Raven patrols tH3 d34dly str33tz of West Lafayette. Suddenly trouble and choas appear and Rookie Officer Raven swoops into action:

"Unit needs assistance, unit needs assistance! Hot Tri Delt dropped her books near the fountain.

Suspect is a two looker and considered gorgeous. Approach with a smile." :D

Yeah, but what happens the next time Purdue wins a basketball game and chaos erupts? It'd be up to me to enforce martial law.

It'd be a hell of a time messing with all the incredibly intoxicated kids out at Where Else and Brothers too guys...

Except I'd have to practice my FSEs a heck of alot.

Enjoy the nice firearms laws in Indiana... only state better than Florida as far as that is concerned.

As a native of Indiana who went to Purdue and then spent a summer internship in New Jersey, I think I have some idea of just how much your current situation sucks!

A coworker at my internship described Secaucus thusly: "All of the problems of NYC with absolutely none of the benefits."

Oh well, just head to Mitsuwa's and pick up some sushi and cuttlefish and things will be better, at least for awhile. ;)
