If I owned a .44 Magnum, I would definately load it with .44 Magnum ammo. My first thought when looking at the velocity, weight, bullet diameter of the Special was "this might be a ballistic twin of the .45ACP" and I think that it usually is.
Although the bones smear things a little more , that has been the same results I have gotten with that load in the last 3 years when I slaughter goats with it. Funny thing is from a 2.5" S&W 296 , a 4" 629, an 8 3/8" Mod 29 or a sixteen inch carbine, the results have been pretty much the same!
