Bill Clintons old stomping grounds.
Firearm : gas-operated semi-automatic with 20" barrel length and 1/10" twist

Cartridge : Federal Classic Hi-Shok 123gr softpoint

Block calibration : All depths corrected (10.9cm at 593 ft/sec)

Single shot impacted the block at 2254 ft/sec, penetrated to 14.0" and was recovered at 0.632" average diameter.

Bullet exhibited significant fragmentation and was recovered at 93.7gr. The primer almost backed out of the primer pocket - the guns owner reasoned that the round was underpressure, due to the groove diameter of his weapon being 0.311", while the ammunition in usage was a true 0.308" bullet.

You can recycle gelatin by melting it down. I will do this occasionally when I am trying to figure out what to test on its own block - IE, if its a pistol bullet that goes 7" in the block, there is no point in testing it in a block made of 'new' powder.

So far, I haven't noticed any difference between penetration/expansion in a recycled block or in a 'new' block - whatever difference there may be is likely within the level of uncertainty inherent to gelatin blocks/testing with bullets.
