ballistics calculator needed

Hi, this weekend i'm going to be shooting my scoped tikka at a contest of sorts. I need to make first round hits on objects at known distances. Previously I've only shot at highpower contests with aperature sights. My question is, once I know the bullet BC, and Muzzle velocity, how do I calculate the elevation and windage adjustments. Are there any free programs that will make a printable data table in 25 or 50 yd. increments?

First go to ballistics, then Calculations, then Trajectories. You will need to know the BC and speed. I use the G1

JBM has a newer page found here , which has the benefit of multiple BC's at different velocities. It also has data for .50 cal shooters and more range (<1800 yds) than anyone I know will ever use.

I've also used Point Blank . You can save load and target data, even make your own targets if you like.

Both were accurate to about 400yds for my .308 loads...then they were close but off after that. Most of the programs will be on to 300yds or so. Sorry... You still need to go out and confirm your come ups.

I've heard nothing but good things about the accuracy of the Horus Vision's ATRAG portable set up for your PDA. Figures out everything and even compensates for environmental conditions like temp and baro pressure. I don't know how important this match is to you, but figuring out a new gadget under fire ain't my idea of a fun afternoon.

Of the ones I've tried, the only one I kept was 'winballistics.' This is a bare-bones system that you need to plug numbers into, but it's powerful and adaptable. It's on my desktop and it's used more often than I care to admit for fear of being accused of an obsession.

Most ballistic programs use the G1 drag model which is inappropriate for the boat tail bullets we fire. The G7 model provides a better fit. However, you'll find that the G1 model works acceptably well out to about 400-500 yards. Depending on the ranges fired during your contest, you may be dissappointed.
