Looks like we will pick up four seats in the Senate, flipping the pro-ban March vote from 52-47 to 48-51.

In addition to that, the President is going to win Ohio, wailing and teeth gnashing among the Democrats not withstanding.

We will be able to propose lawsuit reform and other pro-gun legislation now without having to worry about having a ban attached to it until about 2007. Of course this assumes that no Senators flip and we have some that are very close (Johnson in SD didn't vote, Feingold was always iffy).

With that thin of a pro-RKBA margin we won't get anything dramatic through; but we should be able to make some small gains over the next two years and be in good position to increase our lead in the Senate in 2006.

Before we start thinking about making gains, we should give some serious thoughts about repealing some of the past restrictions.

All in all, it's going to be a relief from having to worry about Schumer, Feinstein and and the group of 5.

While I agree that things are looking much better, I still have to think that there will be attempts to put some form of AWB legislation on the calendar. Feintwit and the rest will keep plugging away until they get what they want or told by much more senior legislators to go sit in a corner.

The real problems will show up when some form of AWB or gun control legislation is tacked onto a bill as a rider when the Republicans need some Democratic votes to get an important bill passed. Once a bill goes through the variuos committies, gets to the floor and has amendments added, goes back to the other house, gets changed again, then somebody will toss in some inconspicuous piece that will pick away at our rights.

This is probably the single most disgusting thing I hate about our legislative process. Under the table deals, amendments that have nothing to do with an original bill, and vote trading make the whole process almost a joke. It's unfortunate that really important legislation can get fouled up with this sort of political dealing and back scratching.

Now that Bush is back in the White House, there is no reason for him to have to play games about where he stands on the Second Amendment.

The Republicans now have even a bigger majority in the Congress.

Somehow though, I am not going to hold my breath til they pass the "lawsuit reform and other pro-gun legislation" you speak of, Bartholemew

Unfortunately, the Republicans still have to appear “moderate,†which seems to mean passing “reasonable†gun-control legislation, such as “assault-weapons†bans.

As an aside, I was watching ABC election coverage for much of last night. Jennings wondered if “Mr.†Bush would move to the middle during the next four years or would “continue to appeal only to his base.â€

Jennings is an idiot. Bush abandoned his base. He moved to the left. Fortunately for him though, most of his base wasn't paying close enough attention to notice.

The "Mr. Bush" comments really irk me. Especially since a reporter last night mentioned that "President Clinton" was meeting with Kerry supporters.

Watch out for a lame duck session, the last chance for outgoing lawmakers to twist the knife, with the help of incumbants who figure memories will fade over time. I think we'll be safe enough once the new Senate is seated, though.

Jennings is an idiot. Bush abandoned his base.…

Maybe so, but that isn’t how the “leftist extremist media,†as Standing Wolf would say, will play it.

To be fair, Jennings kept referring to “Mr.†Kerry as well. I think I even heard him say “Mr.†Clinton at one point, so perhaps his disrespect has become a little more equal-opportunity.

Which is why we need to keep plugging away explaining to people (and the politicians) why banning over-10-round and nontraditional-looking guns is NOT reasonable.

And that banning nonhunting guns tramples on the Second Amendment rights of the 4 out of 5 gun owners who DON'T HUNT.

Look for Rehnquist to announce his retirement shortly.

If pro-RKBA judges are appointed to the courts, we'll have less to fear from fickle politicians.
