Barba v Bonta (CA gun/ammo owner data sharing law) - Another win for Firearms Policy Coalition and CA gun/ammunition owners as San Diego Superior Court Judge Katherine Bacal issued a preliminary injunction blocking CA Assembly Bill 173, which allowed CA Department of Justice/Attorney General to share personal information of gun/ammunition owners with non-law enforcement entities - https://www.firearmspolicy.org/fpc-...against-california-gun-owner-data-sharing-law

AB 173 allowed CA AG Bonta to "leak/publish" (Massive data breach) gun owners' personal information (Such as name and address) including law enforcement officers and judges on DOJ/AG's webpage data portal for download (Data portal was shut down after 24 hours but unknown number of downloads of database already took place) - https://oag.ca.gov/news/press-relea...s-new-firearms-data-increase-transparency-and

AG Bonta's "leak/publishing" of gun owners' personal information triggered multiple lawsuits - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ners-in-the-state.907471/page-5#post-12359094

In issuing the preliminary injunction, judge Bacal stated:

“Defendant responds plaintiffs cannot establish irreparable harm because the personal identifying information has already been shared with researchers as recently as November of 2021. Yet this does not account for the potential ongoing and future harms that could occur by continuous use of the information ... Additionally. . .this does not necessarily mean that future requests for data would not occur in the interim . . .and while this motion has been pending, a massive data breach reportedly occurred that leaked personal identifying information from the firearm databases for concealed carry applicants in or about June of 2022. Accordingly, plaintiffs have shown that the balance of harms weighs in favor of issuing the injunction.”

FPC is joined in this lawsuit by the Second Amendment Foundation, California Gun Rights Foundation, San Diego County Gun Owners PAC, Orange County Gun Owners PAC, and Inland Empire Gun Owners PAC.
