I am considering loading some of these bullets and am wondering if anyone has loaded them for a 1:14 twist barrel. Will the slow twist actually work? My probable powder choices are RL15, H-380, IMR 4320, Varget and TAC.
They would not shoot well out of my CZ Varmint which has a 1:14. I was generally able to get 1" groups even out of bullets that shot badly. These were way beyond that.
That being said, the last time I went out I had a friend who has a competition rig built in 22-250 and he had some loaded up with Varget with (which I never tested, but I knew would be safe) and they shot about 1". With some tweaking they might have worked, but that was the last time I went out. Haven't had the time, interest, or money to go drop another $30 on a box of them just for testing... again. The short answer is that they're too long. They MIGHT work in your gun, but the odds are not in your favor. I was able to get plain jane 55 gr. Remington PSP's to shoot darn well, and they only shoot about 1/2" from the POI as my favorite target load in that gun. Which simplifies things considerably. They do now make it in a 45 gr. version, which should stabilize in our guns and would no doubt be a real screamer, but man that's a light bullet.
Thanks for the reply Strongbad. The only other non-ballistic tip bullets that I have handloaded for my .22-250 have been Nosler Partions. The averaged about 1.5-1.75 inches at 100 yards. They are also fairly expensive as are the Barnes. I think that I may load up some 55gr.Sierra Gamekings.
