By my measurements my S&W 19-3 has a 2 3/4" barrel, but I see post where somebody has a 2 1/2 " another is looking for the elusive 3".
Whats the proper way to check barrel length or did S&W simply make a bunch of different length 19-3 short barrel guns?

Barrel length in revolvers is measured from the face of the forcing cone to the muzzle.

SCSW says the standard short barrel for the 19-3 was 2 1/2", but there were apparently a very limited number produced with 3" barrels.

the difference betwen the 2.5" and 3" M-19 would be the lenght of the ejector rod.

the 3" gun uses the full lenght rod, while the 2.5" has a shortened rod which doesn't give full ejection, with .357mag shells, when the rod is slowly pressed rearward
