I was wondering if anyone knew specifically, or at least more specifically than "hot," what temperature the barrel of a rifle can get during rapid fire. I know they can get hot enough to blister skin and I've seen wood handguards smoke (even light on fire in some Youtube videos), but I'd like to know if someone has a more specific answer.
See I put a thread adapter on my WASR and put an A2 style birdcage flashhider on it. But in the absence of a detent, it is constantly coming unscrewed as I fire. I was wondering if red Loctite would keep it in place. It is rated to 500 degrees F.
I can't afford to do much bump firing any more, but I am not beyond putting 150 to 200 rounds through it in pretty short order doing failure drills and such.
