Hello,

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, if not please move it to the right place. Thanks. Ok So I recently purchased a YHM 22 stinger suppressor and I have a Marlin 22mag bolt action rifle that need to be threaded. I am wondering who should I send it to. I have heard gem-tech is very good at a price of $200 and I was quoted 90 days and adco is another I have heard of. I just called YHM and they do thread barrels for $60 and turn around time is 1 week. Has anyone had experience with YHM threading barrels? I am thinking since they make the suppressors that they should do a good job threading it. As always any inout is appreciated. Thanks

I'd sure assume YHM would be a great place to get a barrel threaded for a YHM suppressor. Price and delivery would appear unbeatable.

Is the price quoted for a removed barrel? Not sure how hard it is to remove the barrel from a Marlin. Please let me know, as I've an old Marlin I'd like threaded if the price is well below what a threaded barrel Savage would set me back, $60 sure would be!

wally the barrel is quite easy to remove. I have done it a few times. I changed the stock to a boyds one and I took everything off to take it to the local gunsmith to have him thread it but he insists on me bringing the suppressor so he can make sure it fits. I don't really like the idea of leaving the end cap of the suppressor with him for up to 2 weeks. That price of $60 does not include barrel removal. The trigger group on mine is very easy to remove and put back in, just 2 hex screws. There are the 2 action screws to remove then 2 screws for the mag release. Mine is the Marlin XT-22MVSR. The guy I talked to asked if the barrel was straight and mine is, no taper, then he said he would have no problem threading it. So I am unsure if they can't thread tapered barrels.

That's a bit odd, tapered barrels are no big deal to thread. The only thing that matters is that the threads and shoulder need to be concentric with the bore.

$60 is a fair price but then there's the shipping cost that will drive the price up.

As far as the local guy wanting the end cap that is a common thing to get the job done correctly. Different suppressors might call for there own threading specs. What works for suppressor A might not for suppressor B even though the threads are the same size. That is common with .22 cans.

Yeah I figure shipping will be 15ish there and 15ish back. So it should be $100ish total. Would I be better suited to have the local guy do it for $125? The suppressor is used on a 22 AR and a 22 1911 both with the factory thread's.

Cylindrical barrels are easier to chuck in a lathe chuck. Tapered barrels are a bit more tricky.

This is a job that any good machine shop can do. It's "just threading", nothing particularly special about it. The bore needs to be dialed in using a dial indicator to make sure you are threading coaxially to the bore and you then single-point thread it.

It's really just high-school level metalshop work for anyone with a lathe and the knowlage of how to use it.

Personally, if I didn't have a lathe here and the knowlage to use it (I do), I'd send it to YHM. Nothing like keeping it all with one vendor.
