I might be starting pure barrier penetration testing in the near future, in addition to the regular gelatin stuff.

Basically, I like the Box-o-truth stuff quite a bit, but some of the results are not telling me what I would like to know, and there are a few cartridges that I would like to test. To keep the results general, I'm not posting anything like the impact velocities or the uncertainty magnitudes (the '+/-' that appears on www.brassfetcher.com) - because I don't feel that every piece of, say drywall, will be as 'tough' as the next piece, etc. so these numbers are not as important as with the gelatin.

I tested a 18" barrel .22lr rifle against the FBI test #4 fixture (interior wall - 2 pieces of 1/2 inch drywall in 12x12" panels) with the CCI rat shot and the CCI Quik-Shok cartridges. 4" behind the panels sat a filled 3 gallon water jug.

The rat shot was fired from 3 feet from the muzzle, penetrated the first panel and indented the paper face of the second panel. No penetration into second panel was noted.

The CCI Quik-Shok, on the other hand. This round appeared to have fragmented upon impact with the face of the first panel. A ~ 3/8" diameter hole then followed the path of the bullet, with a 1/2" hole being present in the second panel. The water jug had a 5/8" entrance hole and 8" of penetration through 70 degree F water.

Any rat shooters out there with experience with this round?

I shot a young quail that got loose from my pen with the "rat shot" once, from a 4.5" bbl .22 pistol. It definitely hurt the bird, but penetration was very lacking and I'll never do it again. :scrutiny: I've gotten MUCH better results in such situations from a .177 pellet gun.

My sister worked with a guy who was super depressed over his wife leaving, so he drank a fifth and shot himself in the stomach (contact shot) with the same load, thinking that she would feel bad and come back to take care of him. :barf: He bled some, one of the grains of sand went into his liver, but they didn't even bother trying to take any of them out. All the perforations were so small, they just stitched his belly hole closed and put him on some anti-biotics.
