Ok so I'm apparently getting back way more than I thought on my taxes and have already taken care of a lot of things sonit ends up being funny money, so in addition to my new m&p I'm planning on, id like to get a 1911, as I don't currently have one, im not sure the terminology towered them and their sizes, but id like the shortest one, the four or so inch barrel, and I'm wanting to customize it, I dint want a ria or anything THAT base of a model, I want something with changeable sights and whatnot, any suggestions? It will be put into the rotation as a carry/range/whatever gun so keep that in mind

Thank you ahead of time and all have a wonderful day/night

Well the standard (for the most part) sizes and corresponding designations are:

Government - 5" barrel and full size frame (7 or 8 round magazine)
Commander - 4.25" barrel and modified full size frame (7 or 8 round magazine)
Officer - 3.5" barrel and short frame (6 or 7 round magazine)

Note however, that for many manufacturers, the middle sized 1911 is not a true 4.25" Commander barrel but a shorter 4" barrel often times in the form of a bull barrel (i.e. no bushing) or a tapered cone barrel (again no bushing). These will also utilize a different recoil spring end plug.

Without having an approximate budget, it's hard to make a recommendation, but if you want to step up from the RIA GI or Springfield GI/Mil-Spec line, you're going to be spending north of $600.00. I'd say a Springfield Loaded Champion or a Colt XSE Commander would be a good starting point. The Springfield Loaded will have more bells and whistles than will the Colt, but I know many simply prefer the pony gun.

Well let's say between 6-700$ and I'm wanting something with a decent trigger and sights from the factory, grips can be replaced but I want it accurate, the only ine that doesn't have good sights that I like is a colt new agent I believe its called, with just a groove down the top

The Colt XSE Commander or the Springfield Loaded Champion both sound like they'd be good guns in the mid-size bracket and the Springfield Loaded Ultra and Colt Defender would be the picks in the sub-compact category, all of these have NIB prices of $800-$900, however.

American Classic has a 4 1/4" Commander It comes pretty loaded and less than 500 in blue my classic has been a great 1911 . Its the 5"
Might find a use Colt in your range I have found a couple for 5 to 6 over last couple years .

Taurus 1911

Just made a post this week on another Thread...

Here is the link: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=7089311#post7089311

This would be great entry level 1911 with extras and well in the $600.00 price range.

Do some shopping and my link has reviews from a couple magazines that are more in depth. There is also a video that is real good.

Some may agree and others may not but hell of a good gun at a great deal! MO!

And just picked up a new magazine to add to the others!
They Review the PT1911 ALR.... nothing but positive.....again!
