I’m loading to 75’s to shoot open sights! Carry handle time sights! I bought the good one from Palmetto. Hopefully look cool like this guy

I have the PSA branded carry handle on their premium FN rifle length kit.

The carry handle is set up to zero at 100 yards with the elevation drum bottomed out. Then I sighted in 3” high at 150 yards for a MPBR on a 6” circle. I (finally) found an Allen wrench for the little screw in the elevation drum and set the 8/3 flat section at the 150 yard mark, 4 clicks from the bottom. That covers me as far as I can see with just iron sights and keeps me inside an 8” circle out to 300 yards (6” circle plus a little safety factor). It also lets me really dial in on a 100 yard target for load testing.

very technical, But I read that not all carry handle are the same quality. And PSA was the best for the money. I can’t believe you can hit something with open sight ls at 300 yards!

I got lucky on my carry handle choice then. I just got it because they had them in stock at the local store.

I only did it once. It wasn’t with this rifle though. I haven’t had a chance to try this rifle at the 300 yard range. I have to go as a guest. I hit the bottom margin on a B-27 green silhouette from 300 a couple times. That was with the MBUS sights on my Discount Marksman Rifle (DMR). I think I shot 5 or 6 and got 3 hits. Also I’ve put about 500 rounds through my Marlin 60 with Tech Sites between 50 and 100 yards. That helped a lot.

I thought open sights referred to stuff like the factory sights on a lever action. Is that not the case? I always called the carry handle type either peep or aperture.

That’s cool that those guns are capable of shooting that far without optics. I can’t wait to stretch my 75’s out! I bought my PSA carry handle because it had really good reviews. I believe I paid $70 for it, I also bought the A2 Stock they had. I really just wanted a A2 looking gun without the cost of a real A2. But looking at those Rock River A2 guns! Don’t know man, might save up and get one of their uppers.

I always refer to anything without Glass as Open Sights. But I also call Crawfish “Crawdaddys”

The 600 yard SR-6 10 and X ring are really a hoot. The black kind of wiggles around in your rear aperture, and the post wiggles in and out of focus. Surprising how many 10s and Xs one does hit with a good hold and wind call though!

The 7" 10 ring on 300 yards, 10 shots rapid is fun too. The top shooters are usually 98/100 or better in this stage locally. If you leak 9s in a rapid, you're not winning leg points! My handle origninates from a single inexplicable 8 in an otherwise perfect rapid prone string that cost me a high profile match win. I think it was my first shot and I hadn't settled into the position well enough yet.

It sounds daunting to the uninitiated, but it is really much easier than one thinks to get in there slung up with good fundamentals.

that crazy how capable those guns are! My buddies, 1st thing they do to a AR is put a Vortex 20-50x80mm scope on it and still can’t get good grouping. lol

Sounds like they bought a scope and it came with a free rifle. That’s how my Henry 22 looks with about any scope on it.

I’ve seen what some here have posted when shooting with iron sights. That’s what inspired the A4gery build. I’m ok off a rest. It looks like someone snuck a shotgun upper onto my A4 when I shoot off hand.

The Tech Sites on a Marlin 60 are a good way to practice as well. That’s what I use for 60 yard rimfire silhouette competition. I don’t think the rifle is really up to hitting a 1” square at that distance but neither am I most of the time. I think I’ve done it once in two competitions. I’ve thought about a CMMG conversion for my A4 clone and shooting that 20” barrel with 22 LR in the same competition.
