Usually my wife gets me a gun for my birthday but I don't need any more guns so this year I told her I wanted one of those Ceiner .22 conversion units for my AR15 because it looked like fun. It took two months for the darned thing to arrive but I must admit it dropped right in and rattled them off like it was made that way. I got both a 10 and a 30 round mag and both seem to work fine. But note, it failed to feed 50% of the time with lead bullets. Copper coated bullets fed just fine.

I didn't expect this thing to shoot real well, but just trying it out at 25 yards I fired two, 5-shot groups and both measured about 1.25". Both had 4 close together at around 3/4" with a flyer (flier?) enlarging the group. The trigger on my old SP1 isn't good and that doesn't help. But, for plinking it looks like fun and maybe with a nicer trigger and some ammo experimentation it might actually shoot pretty good.

At this point I give the Ceiner unit a thumbs up.

I love my Ciener. It's the best AR accessory out there. As a matter of fact, I just got back inside after shooting it out in the back yard this evening. It's one of my favorite toys.

I think the older 1/12 twist rifles like your SP1 are the best ones for the kit. With the slower rifling twist they seem to shoot more accurately.

Here's a couple tips for you:

1) Cheap hi-cap mag: If you take that ten round mag apart, you'll notice a metal post at the bottom of the spring that fits in a hole in the base plate. Leave the post out when you re-assemble and you can get about 14 rounds in it. I took mine out thousands of rounds ago and have never had any trouble.

2) If you shoot 22lr a lot, you may clog up your gas port with lead and have cycling problems. A couple rounds of .223 after your session of 22lrs will blow it out. Since I mostly shoot mine in my back yard (.223 is too loud for my neighborhood), I just ended up plugging the gas tube with a piece of metal rod on a surplus M16 upper and made a dedicated .22LR with mine.

3) The Rock River NM trigger or the Chip McCormick drop in trigger will fix up that SP1's trigger nicely.
